Paul Haggis, promoting his new flick In the Valley of Elah, turned much of the rumors of Bond 22 on its ears. He denied the picture would be “jokier”, as was previously reported, and even implied no one knows what exactly the next Bond movie entails - not even him.

“I’m on page 22. I’m not writing it today because I’m here, but I was writing it up until 8 p.m. last night.” Haggis said at a news conference.

I haven’t been following the Bond developments as ardently as others. My feelings are Haggis did so particularly awesome with Casino Royale that I don’t need to expand on every single little detail. When there’s a new Bond girl cast or a new trailer on the screen, I’ll be there. But until then, give the man some space to write.

Haggis did say that while Bond 22 is based in Ian Fleming, the movie will begin 2 minutes after Casino Royale began - presumably with a rifle-touting Bond standing over a wounded baddie.  

Though Haggis denied some of the rumors, there were others he was candidly quiet on - such as the possibility of Vesper Lynd’s boyfriend as the chief villain. Whether or not this is the case remains to be seen, but I have a feeling that even if fans and blogs got ahold of the outline of the film - which seems to the case, given their knowledge of key scenes throughout the film - the first rule of writing is, Never trust the Outline. (The second rule, for those curious, is Stock up on Red Bull.)

We’ll be sure to hear more developments when Haggis completes the script. Keep up the good work, Paul - only about a 120 more pages to go!
