World Wrestling Entertainment has just signed a first-look deal with 20th Century Fox that will increase the presence of the likes of Glen “Kane” Jacobs, “Stone Cold” Steven Austin, John Cena, and others, on the big screen.  The terms of the deal call for WWE Films to “develop, finance, and produce at least one theatrical release and up to four direct-to-video titles annually.” Of course they want to capture the largest audience possible, so these films will all be PG-13.
The first film under the agreement is scheduled to be “12 Rounds”, directed by Renny Harlin, staring John Cena. It won’t hit theaters until 2009. Cena starred in “The Marine”, another Fox venture, which did alright at box offices but well enough on DVD to convince Fox this would be a worthwhile venture.
