Writing for Animation and Live-Action

December 29th, 2007 in Directors, Writers, classic

brad-bird.jpgI have often thought that some of the recent best stories in film were from animated features — “Incredibles,” “Spirited Away,” “Toy Story” and “The Iron Giant” — to name a few.

I saw an article with Brad Bird reflecting that exact same thought.

In the article he says, “There isn’t a giant difference between animation and live action. You need characters, stories, themes. It’s called good storytelling.”

In this piece Bird clearly delineates that there is no difference between animation and live-action features. It is just telling a great story that makes a great movie whether animated or not.

Apparently, Bird’s next project is live-action.

Check out the story and let me know your thoughts.
