The Pursuit Of Happyness brushed aside Charlotte’s Web and Eragon to take $27 million this weekend and the number one box office spot.
It’s Will Smith’s 10th film in a row to open at no.1, confirming the man as box office gold. But it’s also a number one debut for little Jaden Smith, and a number one English language debut for Italian director Gabriele Muccino.
The CGI dragons of Eragon landed in second place, taking $23.4 million, with Charlotte’s Web tangled up in third place after only taking $12 million. Apocalypto bounced down the box office steps like a sacrificial Mayan head, falling from last weekends top spot to sixth place.
