Talladega Nights Shake and Bake buddies Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will be reteaming with each other and with writer/director Adam McKay for Step Brothers. They’ll play two spoiled middle aged sons who become competitive step brothers after their parents marry each other.

McKay recently told website Suicide Girls that this time they’re deliberately going for an R rating.

Step Brothers will be R rated. We’re not in any way censoring ourselves on this one. We’re not playing the PG-13 game. We’re not ever stopping language or nudity ever. Already there are a couple jokes that have nudity and just 25 pages into it we’ve already said fuck about seven times.

This could go either way. Sometimes when the gloves are off hilarity ensues. The naked wrestling scene in Borat is a great example of a non-PG-13 scene that’s permanently seared into my retinas. But sometimes working with restrictions is a good thing.

Elsewhere in the same interview McKay mentions that the Talladega Nights insane “Shake and Bake” catchphrase came about after their first choice was already taken.

The funny thing is that it the catchphrase was supposed to be “Thunder and Lightening.” Then we found out that [Pixar’s] Cars has a whole thing with Thunder and Lightening, which we didn’t find out until we were in the middle of shooting the movie. So we came up with all these other dumb versions of it and I can’t remember who came up with Shake and Bake. I think it was me.

Step Brothers is set to begin filming in July 2007. Before that, Ferrell will star in two more sports movies: upcoming ice skating comedy Blades of Glory and basketball flick Semi-Pro.
