Will “Cloverfield” Live Up to the Hype?January 17th, 2008 in Box Office, Idle Speculation, Movie News |
It’s almost 1.18.08, the infamous date so mysteriously waved in front of our noses for the past few months as the launch date of J.J. Abrams latest flick. Well it wasn’t long before we learned the actual name of the movie - Cloverfield - as well as a few tidbits of information, but that’s about it. The movie still remains shrouded in some type of secrecy, which really leads me to believe that there’s really nothing earth-shattering about this movie, but the filmmakers would love to convince us that maybe there is. So with the release date fast approaching, the question remains - will “Cloverfield” dazzle us, or will it flop?
The outlook is not looking good. Critics who have gotten a sneak peek at the film are churning out the decidedly lukewarm reviews by the truckload. But who knows if they’re on track. I’ve seem some great films that were completely panned by the critics, and others that the critics loved that were just horrendous.
Whatever the case, “Cloverfield” is sure to be the number one movie at the box office this weekend, and likely the biggest box office showing of 2008 to date.

I read that the film itself is only 75 minutes (but that they dragged the credits out long enough to give it an 80+ minute running time). Seems rather short!
