Welcome to Paradise, a Dove Foundation Family recommended film, will be released on DVD this coming October 9, 2007. The film stars Crystal Bernard in an inspirational and heart warming story about Faith, Love and Community.
The film centers on the life of a preacher who is sent from a big city church to Paradise, a small, rural community that is in desperate need of direction. The fact that the preacher is named Debbie only complicates things. She finds a town that is stuck in complacency as well as a town that turns its back on its neediest neighbors. Debbie begins building a new vision for her congregation and the veil of indifference starts to lift. When the Paradise Church is accidentally burned down, and it’s charter is in danger of being revoked, the members rally around Debbie and in doing so, realize that a “church” is defined by it’s community, not by the four walls that house a Sunday Service. Debbie’s kindness and insight bring a blast of fresh air to this out of the way country town. It also brings her a second chance at love.

So…? Since there seems to be a number of people who have an issue with female preachers, that’s the rub. Saw this movie screened at a church in Dayton, OH and its was really really good.

So… Wait just a sec. Who has a problem with female preachers? This is the internet, aren’t we supposed to just have a problem with preachers? What the hell is up with the casting on this one anyway? Check out the battle of the paleolithic brows. Remember that scene in Silence of the Lambs? “Good nutrition’s given you some length of bone, but you’re not more than one generation from poor white trash, are you, Agent Starling?” Oh the lack of humanity. I can just taste the vowels, comin’ in from the back of throat with nary a consonant in sight to stop em. I really wish the rapture would hurry on up and get here so we can stop subsidizing education with lottery tickets and get on to making cyborgs.
And stop making movies like this, of course.
