midway-logo Games publisher Midway Games had recently been going through financial difficulties, but all that is over now, as the company has declared bankruptcy and is no longer functioning. Warner Bros. was quick to pounce on this opportunity, buying up many of Midway’s assets.

Having spent only $33 million, the studio now owns various popular game franchises, including Mortal Kombat, Spy Hunter, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Rampage and Joust. Warner has not revealed its plans for potential film development of these franchises. It should also be pointed out that they did not purchase Midway’s two development studios, a move which has left many to wonder about the future of these games franchises.

Mortal Kombat has been successful on-screen, though the last movie was released over a decade ago. A Spy Hunter film was said to be in development, but now appears to be cancelled.
