Well folks, if you were hoping to see Peter Jackson tackle The Lovely Bones, then I’ve got bad news for you–the wide release has been pushed back to January 15th. Admittedly, that’s not exactly a huge wait, but it’s a wait nonetheless.
What’s the holdup, you’re asking? Well, Paramount made the command decision following two important realizations:
1. There are a LOT of movies recently opened.
2. Everyone hates The Lovely Bones.
Well, okay, not everyone…but The Lovely Bones is currently carrying a forty-one percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Granted, that’s not exactly terrible–it’s about thirteen percent higher than the rank New Moon’s currently carrying–but considering this is from the guy who brought us The Lord of the Rings, it’s a dark sign indeed.
Yes, indeed, a dark sign…but is it overstated? Jackson’s body of work suggests that a truly bad piece is out of character for him, but anyone can make one mistake. Is this Peter Jackson’s? Only time will tell.
