July 3rd, 2007 in Actors, Drama, Movie News, Movies
Good friends and obvious fans of eachother’s work, Eddie Vedder and Sean Penn have come together to work on Penn’s latest movie, Into the Wild. Vedder will be scoring the film, having already written an entire solo album for use in the film, and will be making a brief appearance in the movie. Penn will be directing the film, which stars Emile Hirsch.
Vedder is no stranger to working with Sean Penn or writing songs for films. He covered The Beatle’s You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away for Sean Penn’s film I Am Sam, and wrote two songs for Tim Robbins’ Dead Man Walking, amongst other smaller contributions to various films.
Into the Wild is based off the novel by John Krakauer which tells the tale of Alaskan wanderer/adventurer Christopher McCandless. After graduating from college as a top student and athlete at Emory University in the early 90’s, McCandless gave up his possessions and worldly goods, donated his entire $24,000 savings account to charity, and hitched a ride to Alaska. Fed up with modern society and happier in the wild, McCandless encounters a series of colorful characters that end up shaping his life.
Krakauer and Penn worked together to write the screen adaptation of the book, and Gustavo Santaolalla also contributed to the film’s score.
The movie will hit theaters September 21, and the soundtrack will be released on September 18.
