Musician/actor/philanthropist Steven Van Zandt plans to bring Rock and Roll history and music appreciation into classrooms through the development of a Rock and Roll music education program.Through his Rock and Roll Forever Foundation and in cooperation with The National Association for Music Education and Scholastic, the Little Steven’s Rock and Roll High School is targeted to launch in middle and high-schools in 2008/2009.
The school program will be a chronological anthology tracing the history of Rock and Roll from its roots to present day, highlighting the cultural impact and significance of each era of the genre as it relates to the events and changes that took place in the history of the country and of the world. The program will be co-created by educators and some of the most prominent rock music historians and writers in the country. Each lesson will feature a DVD component with various relevant musicians and celebrities contributing.
This rich compendium of materials will be delivered to schools free of charge. Each participating school will receive a package containing teacher lesson plans, reproducible student pages and accompanying DVDs, CDs, and posters to enhance the students’ experience. In addition, content from these materials, along with additional resources and more information, will exist online, offering
multi-dimensional tools for both students and teachers.
