Stripping away the Tarzan of yore, Entertainment Weekly reports that the new version of the classic character is “ditching the boy-raised-by-apes origin story for a 1930s-set romp with a hefty helping of romance.”

The film will most probably feature parkour-style movements seen in Die Hard and other recent films in favor of the jungle-style vine-swinging in the franchise so far. Apparently, the involvement of scribe Stuart Beatie has set sites speculating that the film will be more of Pirates of the Caribbean-style romp, seeing as how he penned one of the earliest drafts of the movie.

Director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) is attached to direct.
