Waiting for the next installment in the ‘Bourne Identity’ series? There is good news to report as USA network will help you bide your time waiting for the anticipated Matt Damon film. ‘Burn Notice’ is a clever look at a fired CIA worker who gets wants to find out the reason that he has been blackballed. It seems as if someone in his inner circle may have set him up as he is not a corrupt agent.

The show opens with a bang as Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) is completing a deal with a group that is blowing up oil rigs. He calls in a notice to wire the terrorists $750,000 but is told he has a “Burn Notice” out on him, meaning the CIA will not support his missions any more. Using a tactic similar to the opening scene in 2006’s James Bond “Casino Royale, he is able to escape. He had been beaten nearly to death, but is able to reach a plane. When he reaches the plane he is badly injured and passes. When he finally wakes up, he finds out that he has been dropped off in Miami with FBI agents following his every move.

It is now Wetsen’s job to clear his name and find somehow to earn money now that the CIA has drained his funds, frozen his accounts, and made it impossible to get any credit. With the FBI tailing, him he has to use the tricks he has learned in the agency to get them off his tail.

Westen uses biting one liners and humorous ways to get his point across and jobs done. The show shows promise, and it will be interesting to see where the writers take the series. Fans of spy movies and television shows will be pleased with USA’s latest offering.
