Transformers movies have a very special place in my heart. Not only did I spend my formative years turning toy trucks into toy robots and back again - maybe a little more than was healthy - but the 1986 The Transformers: The Movie was my first ever visit to the cinema.
So when I heard Michael Bay was directing a live action and CGI combo Transformers: The Movie a substantial part of my childhood self threw a tantrum. Bay played no part in my formative years and has done nothing but annoy from my teenage years onwards. He’s so uninspired, he apparently couldn’t think up a new title and settled for dropping the definite article. So even his title is disconcertingly vague.
But this trailer looks damn fine. Dark and scary in an apocalyptical War Of The Worlds kind of way with just enough glimpses of Autobots and Decepticons to suggest they’ll be convincing (not to mention big). Plus, anyone still wearing a Strokes t-shirt in 2007 probably deserves to be crushed, evil Decepticon style.

Wow, that’s a surprise. I wasn’t expecting it to be even remotely “hardcore”. God help us, this could actually be a good action movie. The July -> logo transformation was an especially nice touch.
