Hmm. When two hit and miss names get together, things could go either way. Is Jim Carrey a sensitive soul trapped in a comedian’s body (Eternal Sunshine), or is he the rubber faced goon from … well, every other movie he’s ever been in (and yes that includes The Truman Show)? Is Joel Schumacher the genius that directed Falling Down or the jackass that made Batman & Robin?

They’ve teamed up to make The Number 23 (check out the trailer above). Not a Michael Jordan bio-pic, but a paranoid psychological thriller about a man (Carrey) who reads a book and then becomes convinced it was based on his life, because the titular number 23 pops up in his existence repeatedly. If he looks hard enough.

I’m not sure how good a movie can be where the creepy bits are based around the concept of two numbers adding together to form another number. And the paranoia sequences remind me of the bad bits of Vanilla Sky, which can’t be a good thing.

But the above mentioned “could go either way” factor means exactly that, so let’s reserve judgment… for now. Released in the US and UK on February 23rd 2007.
p.s. if you read every 23rd word of this blog post, you’ll find the message “a that teamed about pops bits bad so word”. Which is, of course, gibberish. Or is it…

No, wait. It is.

Looks like a bad blend of Pi and Lost to me. And at least Lost had an interesting explanation for its numbers.
