[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/PdY0XeV6-ss" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]I thought the old haunted house horror flick had been done to death, certainly The Messengers felt like one too many. But The Abandoned has got my attention.
Not only is it directed by the JD Salingeresqu Nacho Cerdà , previously best known for his short film Aftermath which he made way back in the mid-90s, but the concept of people being haunted by their own ghosts is truly terrifying. Cerdà ’s visual flair is present and correct in the trailer, as are the more psychological aspects of horror (always the scariest).
But why oh why did whoever cut this trailer have the self-parodying voice over fella growling incomplete sentences like “In this forest” that add nothing in terms of exposition, and only serve to make this look like every other ghost film ever? It makes the trailer unintentionally funny. In this forest? In this forest what?
So, if you laughed at the trailer first time round thanks to the voiceover guy then do what I did. Watch it a second time, only wedge your fingers in your ears whenever he makes with the half-sentences. Et voila! The Abandoned instantly becomes twice as appealing.

In this forest “what” ?
Well, pay attention: “In this forest, on this Island, lies a house”.
Sounds like a complete sentence to me.
