Top 5 Charleton Heston FilmsJune 20th, 2007 in Actors, Awards, Top 5 List, classic |
Charleton Heston is known for his impressive physique and authoritative voice. He has played many characters that are larger than life. Here are my top 5 favorites:
5. Earthquake: Most critics hated this 70’s disaster flick. The special effects are very convincing and allows viewers that have never heard or felt an earthquake to experience one with the Oscar winning sound effects.
4. The Greatest Show on Earth: Cecil B. DeMille really knows how to make an extravagant movie and he shows off his talents with the 1952 Best Picture about circus life. Charleton Heston stars as the hard working circus manager, Brad.
3. The Ten Commandments: Almost everyone has seen this Cecil B DeMille classic. There is a lot of fine acting and great cinematography . The script gets a little sappy at times, but Charleton Heston’s portrayal of Moses is worth watching for all 3 hours and 39 minutes.
2. Planet of the Apes: The 1968 sci-fi action movie is still a favorite today. Remakes, sequels and TV show pale in comparison to the original in which Charleton Heston stars as the lone astronaut who crash lands on a forbidden planet.
1 Ben Hur: This 1959 Drama shares the record of 11 Oscar wins. It is an intense drama about love, hate, anger and redemption. Charleton Heston’s portrayal of the lead role was brilliant.

I would counter this list with “El Cid”, “The Big Country”, “Will Penny”, “Major Dundee”, and “The Three” and “Four Musketeers”.

Peter,
Are you kidding? “Will Penny” is better than “Ben Hur”?

Charlton Heston is a beautiful person. His performance in films such as Ben-Hur are very inspiring. Even Planet of the Apes showed his depth as an actor. I am thinking of naming my unborn child Charlton in his honor, and for the fact that my own father battled and lost to Alzheimer’s disease.

<p>Yes, “El Cid” is an epic. I saw the remastered version and I thought Heston was magnificent. Only an actor like Heston could command a thousand extras like he did in “El Cid.”
