Top 5: Bruce Willis Roles

June 16th, 2007 in Actors, Movies, Top 5 List

diehardbrucewillis.jpgCelebrating (and frankly hoping it doesn’t stink) the upcoming release of the newest segment in the Die Hard series we take a look at Bruce Willis and his top movie roles. Bruce has an interesting filography filled with great movies (such as these) and downright turkeys (Hudson Hawk anyone). Here is the top 5:

#5 - Armageddon: Willis plays Harry Stamper one of the world’s foremost oil drillers. The film itself was a bit of a disappointed but Willis was excellent in the film. Stamper has to pay the ultimate price sacrificing himself in the the dramatic ending.

#4 - Sixth Sense: Dr. Malcolm Crowe is one of Bruce’s softer roles. Plays a psychologist who is trying to help a young boy who “sees dead people”. Truly one of the best films of the 1990’s and a great showcase of the range Bruce Willis has.

#3 - Pulp Fiction: Boxer Butch Coolidge is a 30-something washed up boxer who is asked to rig a fight from a LA Crime boss. He lost his father in the Vietnam War and has only a watch to celebrate his memory. Of course, when he has to dodge the LA syndicate the watch comes up missing and he has to go back home to find it. Fantastic film and fantastic acting by Willis throughout.

#2 - Sin City: This time, instead of a washed up boxer, he plays an over the hill cop with a heart problem. Reminiscent of a ‘Dirty Harry’ film as his character John Hartigan is an honest cop in an not so honest town. He plays the hero in the movie as the gritty Hartigan. If you have yet to see ‘Sin City’ you missed one of Bruce Willis’ finest moments on the screen.

#1 - Die Hard: Before he he was John Hartigon, Willis played young NYC Cop John McClane. He will reprise the role that has brought us two excellent films (the first two) and one dud (part 3). Hopefully the lastest installment, ‘Live Free or Die Hard’, which hits theaters June 27th will be a return to form. Glad to have McClane’s role back on the silver screen. “yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker”.
