The 31st annual Kennedy Center Honors proclaimed ‘The Kids Are Alright’. On December 7, 2008, The Who received the coveted Kennedy Center Honor as the first rock band ever to do so. The award ceremony was aired December 30, 2008 on CBS. Coinciding with this honor, The Who At Kilburn: 1977 is now available on DVD & Blu-Ray from Image Entertainment. One of the last filmed performances with all the band’s original members showcases them in top form performing many of their biggest hits.
I sat down and watched the DVD. I was floored at how talented these young musicians were at the time.
I must tell you I am not a rock ‘n roll fan. I love music, though. The Who makes music soar.
Pete Townshend transcends all guitar players, fabulously amazing gift, so much energy. The late Keith Moon charismatically flips his sticks as he goes over the top with his drum solos. Sadly this is his final live recorded performance. Roger Daltery lifts the band with his harmonica and voice. Steadfast bass player, John Entwistle plays soulfully.
The familiar tunes make The Who At Kilburn: 1977 a must for anyone’s DVD library.
