So starting today, and carrying on until we run out of material, we’re going to be tackling a different part of the Watchmen video journal. For those of you who don’t yet know, The Watchmen will be out in theatres this March, and you can follow the video journals via their mobile website at m.watchmenmovie.com. They’ve also, not surprisingly, found their way to YouTube.
The first installment of the video journal was on the massive amount of work required for the sets. And when you watch this video, it’s going to be downright disturbing, just how much work they put into this. At one point they were actually letting the sets age naturally for two or three days being in the rain and elements before returning to construct another portion. I’m not a huge set design wonk, but it sure sounds like they’re going for authenticity above all on this one.
But that means precious little in the grand scheme of things. You can have the greatest sets of all time–you could actually FILM on another planet–and if the writing and acting and such aren’t there then the sets just make the crap sandwich look pretty. So we’ll start seguing into all those other important parts next time, to give us a better look at how the whole might turn out.
