The Single Most Pirated Film Of 2009 Is…

200px-StartrekposterThat’s the other great thing about the end of a year–not only are predictions cool, but so are “the biggest” pieces, in which you analyze what happened before.

Turns out the rest of that headline, by the way, is “the new Star Trek”.

It has been estimated that the new Star Trek has been downloaded nearly eleven million times.  The next closest is Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen weighing in at just four hundred thousand downloads shy of that, and the next two are The Hangover and Twilight.

Ironically enough, even after the huge news story that was the early release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine via illegal download, that one only managed to weigh in with just over seven million downloads, nowhere near even Twilight.

So illegal downloading is still alive and well, and from the look of things, it’s led by sci-fi fans who can’t get enough remakes and sequels.
