So I was bombing around YouTube trying to figure out what to write about when a little title called “The Mysterious Death” jumps out at me. Well, with a name like that, I figure, how can I go wrong? It’s got mystery! It’s got death! Clearly, it’s a horror flick!
Yeah…not so clearly as all that. Read on, folks, and brace yourselves, because this is horror, and it’s VERY, VERY BRITISH.
Basically, you’ve got some twelve year old who’s taking care of some yard chores who gets attacked at random by a hooded serial killer sort.
I knew I was in for some serious trouble when they started playing their stolen Saw theme. Sure, it wasn’t like I was getting anything spectacular from Union Jack doing yard work and occasionally pausing for tea for six minutes, but I at least figured something approximate to the name might happen. Maybe a frozen chunk of toilet waste fell on him from a plane. Maybe a BIRD killed him. Anything to suggest an actual mysterious death!
But what I got was the Saw theme and a two minute death scene. Yeah, I know, not exactly huge quality bellringers.
The Screenhead Ten Scale, however, acknowledges the effort put in by at least one, maybe two, twelve year olds and grants their work a four out of ten. It was a nice try, fellas, but come back when you learn something about a coherent narrative.
