Here’s some incredible video from the set of I Heart Huckabees, where director David O Russell and actress Lily Tomlin go at each other.
Before you click play I should warn you it features lots and lots of swearing, including Russell calling Tomlin the word you should never ever call a woman, if you want to live.

It’s worth pointing out that Russell has a reputation for on-set anger, which may or may not be calculated to benefit actor’s performances.

What a shocker. Not only was it terrible to watch, it was terrible to make as well. I like when he knocks over the lamp best. And the line about taking three years to write the script.

That was GREAT.
I love this dude now.
Im sitting here, watching the first half, getting all pissed off cause the actress is acting like a stuck up bitch, pissing and moaning about how hard sitting in a chair and acting is, and he gets a little angry, but eats it up…
and then the second part plays, and im grinning ear to ear. I love this guy.
Great find.

I think it’s awful to watch someone lose his cool — and his use of the misogynist-language is also disturbing and very bad on his part – you never call any woman that word, no matter what; it’s sexist, disrespectful and immature…The funny thing is I loved that movie and it’s one of my favorites…

Boons loves Wendell: I agree. I would love to have seen him direct his anger at Mark Wahlberg or Ice Cube in Three Kings. Yeah, that would make a great YouTube video.

I’m sorry, but they both look like assholes to me.

This is abusive behavior and they both appear to be out of line. However, I am disturbed by the comments saying that she is a bitch who had it coming. It’s just another sign of misogyny that is alive and well in our world. I belive it is well documented that David O. Russell is a difficult director but it is clear that he and Lily bring out the worst in each other. These clips show that the two of them have little disregard for others on the set and have no trouble throwing tantrums. It is a bizarre, amusing, and disturbing spectacle. It is apparent to me that abusive and dysfunctional families are not limited to those that come from the home. There are just some ground rules that should not be broken (abusive language and behavior) and no amount of anger or frustration is a good excuse for adults to behave this way.

I for one, am very deeply hurt and disturbed that some people here are more concerned about political correctness then seeing someone get their come uppance.
Oh well.

No one is upset at the thought of director Russell getting his comeuppane. He’s a bully that physically threatens older women!

bitch is a word. anyone can use it and then deal with the consequences (which may be bad). but anyone who says that it is ipso facto misogynistic to use the word is another pc imbecile. we should “never use the word”? what other words should we never use, ma’am?!

What’s funny is how cool Lily Tomlin remains during the blowup.. and how the crew casually walk off set, like “oh, another argument, lunch break!” But to be honest she seems like a pretty difficult person to work with – he was giving simple direction and lets face it, he IS the director. If your whole movie was being held up by one pain-in-the-ass actor, I’m sure you wouldn’t be all politically correct for long.
