cell-phoneWhen you’re home alone, at night, a phone call can be a real surprise.  But is it the good surprise of old friends?  Or the bad surprise of a random lunatic who’s happy to discover you’re home alone?  This is exactly the question The Call, a short film dug up on YouTube, will ask.

Sadly, this is one of those short films that suffers from its lack of runtime by leaving out critical elements of the plot.  For instance, how exactly does the killer get into the house?  I don’t know.  And by the end of this, neither will you.  He just shows up.

However, there’s a saving grace to this one in the form of an admittedly rather unique and unexpected ending. Admittedly, it will be a very disappointing ending, but it will be unique.  Not many people go this route with an ending, and it’s interesting to see someone try it.  You’ll also, sadly, see WHY not many people go this route.

The Screenhead Ten Scale gives this out of nowhere surprise a four out of ten for being a good try that just can’t pull it off.  Their next movie ought to be something to see.
