Talkshows Dark Due to StrikeNovember 6th, 2007 in The Movie Biz |
Film marketing set back with writer’s strike. Talkshows are reruns with movie stars left in the dark unable to promote their next film.
Studios like Warners try to out create the darkness by promoting elsewhere with a new bent to promotion.
Apparently, latenight talkshows are the first to fill the strike with reruns airing since Monday.
And, there goes the adverting dollars as well. However, commercial time on primetime is still happening. We just don’t get to see the stars this time, that’s disappointing.
Here is a list from Variety that tells what we will miss:
- Meryl Streep was set to appear on the Letterman show Thursday, on the eve of the release of United Artists’ “Lions for Lambs,” which also stars Tom Cruise and Robert Redford.
- Latenight plugs for Warner Bros.’ “Fred Claus,” which opens Friday, included Vince Vaughn set to appear on Letterman today, Paul Giamatti on Leno the same night and Kevin Spacey to talk to Leno on Friday.
- Tommy Lee Jones was to appear on Leno’s show Monday, plugging the Coen brothers’ “No Country for Old Men,” which Miramax opens Friday in a limited release.
Ellen is still shining and back in 1988 the talkshows lit up with no writers available, no monologues either (not a bad idea) So, this holiday season we may still see some awesome movie stars, so keep flipping to the talkshows.
