Disney is falling all over itself to frantically reassure everybody within hearing distance of a Disney mouthpiece that, yes, Johnny Depp WILL be in for Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides. Leave aside the bizarre comments Depp made following the sacking of Disney head Dick Cook–he will be back.
Of course, his involvement in Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Whatever The Hell We’re Going to Subtitle This Thing is best described as “unlikely”. This is okay, because absolutely no part of Five has been greenlit and thus is all still very much up in the air. My guess is they’re going to pick from their enormous array of teen stars to supplant him.
Zac Efron, maybe. Bet he’d look all right mincing around in eyeliner and saying looney things. And by the time Pirates 5 actually comes to pass I’ll bet they’ll have a whole stable full of guy stars they can tap to take on the Sparrow role, or whatever role they want.
Kim Basinger might star with Zac Efron in The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud, the Burr Steers-directed drama. I hope she signs up. I’d like to see her in a film with Efron.
She would play his grieving mother, a caretaker at a cemetery who has weekly meetings with a younger brother whose accidental death Efron’s character feels was his fault.
The film was originally scripted by Craig Pearce and polished by Steers, most directors do that these days.
Me and Orson Welles stars Zac Efron, Claire Danes and Christian McKay and is directed by Richard Linklater. Efron is developing a nice foundation to his acting career. He looks great in this trailer and plays the part of the only 17 year old in “Julius Cesar“ with Orson Welles. However, McKay (Orson Welles) stands out as a very talented actor according to First Showing. The film premiered at Toronto Film Festival but didn’t pick up a distributor as of yet. From the promotion on the trailer, it says coming out this fall. So, Zac Efron fans keep your fingers crossed.
If you haven’t asked this question of yourself at one point or another, then chances are you haven’t yet turned twenty five: what would you do if you had it to do again? I’ve wondered that more than once, believe me–you wouldn’t think so, me living the dream of film criticism and all…but it’s true. And in 17 Again, we’ll get to see just what happens when someone gets the chance.
Mike O’Donnell is a family man with regrets. He could have, you see, gone on to college on a basketball scholarship, possibly even gone pro, but instead he married his pregnant high school sweetheart. Doing the right thing by the young lady has left him disenchanted with life and constantly wondering about what might have been. And when he gets the chance to be, well, 17 Again, he discovers that maybe he’s right where he should be.
Let’s be honest: this will ONLY be good if you can stand this sort of thing. There are some good jokes in here, and Thomas Lennon is always a hoot in anything he shows up in. It’s funny, sure–but it also tries really, REALLY, hard to be heartwarming. Almost too hard, really. But despite this, there’s actually a lot to like here.
The Screenhead Ten Scale is actually somewhat puzzled by this one, and in its puzzlement, hands 17 Again a six out of ten for being a fine example of a movie that only a certain kind of person will ever really enjoy. If you’re looking for a comedy with a note of romance and and drama, and you can stand a huge load of Zac Efron, well, you should be in the right place.
Zac Efron signed up to star in and executive produce an untitled thriller for Mandate Pictures, with Leslie Dixon penning the script. The overall storyline is hush-hush.
Dixon worked with Efron two years ago when she wrote the script for Hairspray.
It’s good to see Efron branching out and taking on diverse roles. He’s building a solid foundation as a serious but bankable actor.
Warner Bros. 17 Again out played all the other movies Friday placing Zac Efron as an audience favorite headliner whom they love and adore. Sorry folks, but I really think he is adorable. 17 Again is a teenager movie. I am sure younglings are in the movie theaters, too. I know my eight years old wants to see this film. I haven’t quite decided yet if she’ll see it.
Warner Bros. sent this to me: a wonderful program for teenagers to get Zac Efron on your phone. I don’t know about the phone, but how about my house (I’ll just stop there.)
Anyway, all you do is text 17 to 58671 to get the latest on Zac’s new movie 17 Again. The hit movie is now in the theaters starring Zac Efron and Matthew Perry. Following months of rumors, The LA Times has finally confirmed that Zac Efron has signed on to play the titular role in the upcoming live-action version of popular ‘60s cartoon Jonny Quest.
The site also reports that Warner Bros. is considering changing the title to avoid comparisons with the flop Speed Racer.
The new adaptation is being scripted by Dan Mazeau. Race to Witch Mountain helmer Andy Fickman and actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson were previously rumored to be attached.
The storyline is familiar, especially for athletes who have a promising career and then enter into parenthood at such a tender age. Additionally, the hardships of life due to the circumstances is something familiar as well since pushing the hand of clock forward is not as natural as the standard growth of life.
But for this movie, where a high school basketball star gets into all of these and then miraculously reverts back to his age of 17 with some weird antics is bound to be a comedy that everyone will be talking about.
Technically this movie seems to be a remake of that 1988 film starring George Burns, 18 Again but with some revisions and changes in the plot of course.
“His mind was 81. His body was 18. When Jack Watson (George Burns) found his fountain of youth, it overflowed with comedy.”
17 Again is scheduled to be released on April 17, 2009.
High School Musical star Zac Efron just might get to step into the shoes of Johnny Quest if this IESB report holds true.
In development at Warner Bros, the adaptation of The Adventures of Johnny Quest also has Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson attached as Johnny’s bodyguard Race Bannon.
Johnson had this to say: “There’s no one else who can be Race Bannon than me. There’s no one else… don’t know if you’ve read the latest one but it’s awesome and it’s badass.”
The film also has Race to Witch Mountain director Andy Fickman linked to it.
