Warcraft Movie Status Update

world_of_warcraft_alliance_pc Speaking at the launch of the recent World of Warcraft expansion last week, Blizzard representative Frank Pearce revealed that they are currently seeking writers for the long-in-development Warcraft movie.

"Legendary Pictures is currently trying to assign some names to write the screenplay and find someone to direct it, so it’s still really early in production,” said Pearce. “They want to make sure they get the right talent for those different parts, especially the screenwriting because that’s the foundation for the movie.”

Pearce was asked whether the movie would be CG-animated (like the games) or live-action. While he did not give any direct answer, he pointed out that it takes a long time for the “brief amount of footage that we create for the game”, adding that it’s about the “quantity of work” which is the important factor.

Shacknews carries word that the WarCraft movie will not come in 2009 as was expected before. This was revealed by Blizzard president Mike Morhaime, who explained that work on the movie was still progressing and that they have a “draft of a script”, though it is not yet final.

"I think we still need to do a lot of work," he said. D’oh!

The film is being developed jointly by Blizzard and Legendary Pictures. No details are known yet.
