Seems Wes’s long-lost father was killed while working for the Fraternity and Wes has been selected to target the rogue member who murdered him. I found it very interesting that James McAvoy was casted in this film as the hero; definitely against type yet he has a certain everyman quality that makes the character genuine.

110607d Wanted co-writer Chris Morgan has said to MTV News that he is ready to pen a sequel for Universal Pictures, who is apparently in the final stages of negotiating a deal with graphic novel creator Mark Millar.

The studio hopes to have the sequel continue the journey of Wes (the protagonist, played by James McAvoy) started in the first film. Sadly, Angelina Jolie won’t be any part of it.

The sequel’s story is expected to be more global, with Wes globetrotting to find out other assassins. No release date is known yet.

Wanted DVD Release Details

WANTED-Jolie-Teaser-Sml The holiday season will be host to quite a few big movie releases on DVD, including The Incredible Hulk and Hellboy II. But so far, we hadn’t heard about the Wanted DVD release… up until now, that is.

The diligent reporters at The Hollywood Reporter carry first details of the Angelina Jolie-starring movie. The release will be issued in a deluxe gift set in both DVD and Blu-ray formats, which includes a digital copy, bonus content, a book on assassins and collectible postcards. The set will come in collectible packaging pierced with a bullet, creating a shattering effect to the outer case.

Be prepared to hand over your hard-earned money starting December 2 for the DVD.

Millar on Wanted Sequels

Wanted_film_poster Talking to Newsrama, Mark Millar let out some details about Wanted 2 and possibly Wanted 3.

Millar disclosed that he was approached right after the premier by producer Mark Platt. He shared his thoughts on continuing the story:

What I will be doing is providing them with a very small amount of stuff for a story, and that will be used as a basic story that they can build from. It will be a small outline that can possibly be picked apart and not used – but it will be something exclusively for the second film, and no one will ever really see it.

The film version of Wanted was a major departure from the comic book that was about supervillains wiping the memories of superheroes off everyone’s minds. The film’s sequel, Millar points out, will feature elements of chapters three and four from the comic book, though it will be there in the “loosest sense” possible.

Angelina Jolie is very close to take the title character in Edward A. Salt, a CIA officer who’s accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy and must avoid capture long enough to establish her innocence.

Tom Cruise for a long time played with the project, but that ended recently. The well-regarded script had several male movie stars interested.

Jolie took an interest, setting off the studio’s decision to rewrite it.

Ever since Tomb Raider, Jolie has been the only woman to hold the action genre compared to the exclusive male only domain.  The film Wanted proved it out with $132 million domestically. Jolie is one tough chick.

The title, “Edwin A. Salt,” will definitely have to go. If everything falls into place, the film shapes up as a return from maternity leave for Jolie, who a short time ago gave birth to twins.

angelina-jolie-wanted-movie-poster Having assassinated box office competition, Wanted may be in for a full trilogy, reports Cinema Blend. While it is still a rumor at this point, the site claims that two more sequels are already being planned with both James McAvoy and Terrence Stamp back in their roles.

Flashbacks will play an important role in the films, exploring Angelina Jolie’s Fox character. It will allow us to meet the man who trained and recruited her, with him becoming the possible villain of the sequels.

The site also notes that the sequels will have McAvoy’s Wesley travel globally, fighting Fraternity cells all over the world.

The box office in general this weekend brought in loads of money to Hollywood.  WALL-E topped it off with Wanted behind by $9 million.  I am sure some “experts” are going to try to theorize why Hollywood is doing so well in 2007 when it can easily be summed up to great movie entertainment.
