Precious Trailer #2

Precioushas been on the festival circuit, getting rave reviews with some strong backers: Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry. The movie opens with a limited release November 6, 2009.  Precious is a strong, emotional film about survival and truth.  Yet, I don’t know if I could sit through this film as entertainment.  That is usually why I go to the movies,  I want to escape for two hours and not worry about the problems of society. What do you think?

icandobad_1sht_vf-664x1024All I can think about Friday’s box office results is: What happened to The Final Destination? It didn’t even make the top five.  Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself shines brightly at the top as it should be. This is Perry’s sixth movie to do so.  Bad All By Myself  looks great. It’s funny and endearing.  And, I am very excited about Shane Acker’s 9 being in second place.

Results:

1. I Can Do Bad All By Myself
$ 8.6

2. 9
$ 3.3

3. Sorority Row
$ 1.9

4. Inglourious Basterds
$ 1.88

5. All About Steve
$ 1.8

big momma's houseAs in two more than one.  As in one more than two. As in why are they even bothering?

Look…I know Martin Lawrence’s career is pretty much as dead as a goldfish when you get it home but do we seriously need yet another guy in a fat suit and horrible accent?  Isn’t the whole cross-dressing black guy thing pretty much owned by the nonstop array of Madea movies that Tyler Perry continually grunts out like so many golden eggs of dubious origin?

But to show Fox’s committment to blasting Lions Gate out of the water in the black guys dressed like elderly fat black women subgenre, they’ve brought in Randi Mayem Singer to handle the script.  The hilarity in that decision comes in the fact that Singer was the previous writer of…brace yourself…

MRS. DOUBTFIRE.

You can’t see me right now, and that’s probably a good thing, because my gravitas would be SO smoked by the fact that I spent the last three minutes rolling with laughter.  I now understand ROFL.  But this really is fun news, even if the movie won’t be quite so much fun.

I’m giving two to one this goes direct to video!

I Can Do Bad All By Myself has some poetic talent that includes Taraji P. Henson, Brian White, Hope Olaide Wilson, Adam Rodriguez, Kwesi Nii-Lante Boakye and Frederick Siglar. Can they sing or what!Anyway, we’ll have fun seeing Perry as Madea, America’s favorite pistol-packing grandma. She catches sixteen-year-old Jennifer and her two younger brothers looting her home, she decides to take matters into her own hands and delivers the young delinquents to the only relative they have: their aunt April. A heavy-drinking nightclub singer who lives off Raymond, her married boyfriend, April wants nothing to do with the kids. But her attitude begins to change when Sandino, a handsome Mexican immigrant looking for work, moves into April’s basement room. Making amends for his own troubled past, Sandino challenges April to open her heart. And April soon realizes she must make the biggest choice of her life: between her old ways with Raymond and the new possibilities of family, faith…and even true love.

The new trailer for Tyler Perry’s movie tells you about the story. It’s clever in that Perry hits some heart sings, but it is a familiar storyline that is too predictable unless there are some plot twists and turns that we haven’t seen or heard.  It’s still being billed as a comedy, but I’d say it’s more of a comedy-drama.

On behalf of Lionsgate we are pleased to present the One-Sheet for Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Madea is back in this hilarious and uplifting comedy starringTyler Perry, Taraji P. Henson, Brian White, Hope Olaide Wilson, Adam Rodriguez, Kwesi Nii-Lante Boakye and Frederick Siglar.

The movie is being billed as “hilarious and uplifting comedy” but there is a pair of shattered glasses in the poster – such irony.  Yet, I love this storyline.

When Madea, America’s favorite pistol-packing grandma, catches sixteen-year-old Jennifer and her two younger brothers looting her home, she decides to take matters into her own hands and delivers the young delinquents to the only relative they have: their aunt April. Beautiful motion poster with the yellow rose opening to reveal a woman’s face, but so unlike Tyler Perry’s movies, or am I missing something here?

When Madea, America’s favorite pistol-packing grandma, catches sixteen-year-old Jennifer and her two younger brothers looting her home, she decides to take matters into her own hands and delivers the young delinquents to the only relative they have: their aunt April. Initially wanting nothing to do with the kids, April learns along the way that she can change her old ways and become a better person. But it takes a lot of work and the help of a handsome Mexican immigrant who moves in with April to push her to change. Lionsgate’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself opens in theaters on September 11th!

What does this poster communicate to you?  It is rather seductress and yet refreshing with the yellow rose.  Tyler Perry may be playing a joke on us because I thought the movie was a comedy.  Here is the information on the movie and you decide if the poster fits the picture.
