Man, when you actually hear this chunk of news, chances are you’ll nod your head in agreement, convinced that you’ve already heard it somewhere, but no. You heard it here, folks–there’s going to be a special appearance in Tron: Legacy by vaguely electronica group Daft Punk.
No, seriously. Daft Punk. You know, that club band everyone was listening to back in the late nineties, early two thousands or so? They’re not just appearing in it, either, they’re also scoring it.
Just for reference’s sake, I’ve attached a video directly below courtesy of YouTube to give you a better idea who these guys are and why it’s actually terribly appropriate that they show up in a movie like Tron. Like I said, this is actually a pretty good idea; so much so that you’d almost be convinced you heard it already, it’s just that rational a fit.
Tron: Legacy hits theaters this Christmas where it will likely pound holy hell out of its competition.
Well, it’s official, folks–Tron Legacy has a release date and that release date is December 17, 2010.
Its upcoming competition? You’re going to love this–it’ll be taking on Yogi Bear, The Smurfs and The Green Hornet, which means it’s almost certain to be the top movie of that weekend if for nothing else than it’s based on the most recent source material? Or was it the Smurfs that’s most recent? Well, anyway, they’re both almost thirty years old at least, so chances are the adventures of Kevin Flynn’s son Seth will not be the overlooked one at the box office next Christmas.
I don’t hold out anywhere near so much hope for the Smurfs, however. Or for Yogi…or for the Green Hornet for that matter. But either way, I know which one of the four I’m actually hoping to see, and if my opinion is shared by any decent number of people, it’s gonna be a bloodbath.
My first thought is that they don’t make movies like they use to anymore and Hallelujah! Disney released TronLegacy teaser trailer at SDCC and it bites big time. Although, ACIN reports that we should keep in mind that this may not be final material – FX, design work and so forth. It may have been altered substantially between the creation of this reel and production of the film itself. Nonetheless, this is a very tantalizing glimpse, to say the least, of what we have in store come 2010. Go to Flyn Lives to see a better quality verison.
I’ve never really been a fan of movie sequel titles, especially the Tron sequel being ridiculously named “Tr2n”. Thankfully, the producers got it through their head that it was an awful title, and chose a much more sensible name, “Tron Legacy”, at this year’s Comic-Con.
Along with the rename, the panel over at Comic-Con showed off a new footage revealing details about the movie’s plot. If you want a peek at that, you’ll have to wait for a leak or the official release by Walt Disney Studios. No new 3D footage was released.
“We’ve probably got three or four things in this movie that have never been done before, and we’re doing them all at the same time,” director Joe Kosinski said. “I promise you that next year at Comic-Con you’ll see some things you haven’t seen before.”
The sequel for the 1982 sci-fi film is still scheduled for a 2010 release, so keep an eye out for it.
Disney has picked a relative newcomer to the silver screen, Garrett Hedlund, to star in the studio’s sequel to Tron the 1982 cult classic. The sequel was called Tron 2 and then Tr2n. After all that, the sequel is now just called Tron like the original film.
Hedlund credits start with 2004’s Troy and then progresses with ensemble films including Peter Berg’s Friday Night Lights, Four Brothers, Eragon and Georgia Rule.
Hedlund is set to play the play the lead, a man who is pulled into the world of a computer and retraces the steps of a character from the original movie named Kevin Flynn.
Jeff Bridges is reprising the role of Flynn, who was a computer programmer but ended up as the CEO of a software corporation.
Bruce Boxleitner played the title character in Walt Disney Pictures’ 1982 film Tron. He is filming a role for the studio’s forthcoming Tron 2.0. He joins previous cast member Jeff Bridges and newcomers Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett in the anticipated action-adventure.
Even though plot details are being kept under wraps, it is know that the new movie will act as the “next chapter.” Wilde will play a worker in the virtual world who tries to help fight Master Control Program, while Garrett will play a siren in the virtual world per Coming Soon.
Sequel to Tron came up in the news today with Olivia Wilde taking on the female lead in the Disney film.
Not much is mentioned in the trades about Wilde’s character in the sequel called TR2N, which is being directed by Joseph Kosinski, but it’s good to hear the sequel is moving along in production.
Some additional information to be known is Jeff Bridges will return in the role he played in the 1982 original where he plays a hacker who is seized into the world of a computer and forced to take part in a series of gladiatorial games.
