michael-bayWell…here we go.  Rumors about the next Transformers movie have emerged, and anything short of Michael Bay actually putting a proton cannon in his own mouth and tabbing the firing stud will be something of a disappointment.

But you’ve got to admit, the guy has made thinking big into an art form.  Long term Trans fans may not be wondering, but everyone else might wonder what’s next?  The answer may already have been given away via the Transformers 2 DVD, found on an Easter egg.

Here, let’s have some fun.  Guess the new secret huge feature for Transformers 3!

A. For some reason, QUINTESSONS! Finally!

B. Megatron will finally make the big move to Galvatron.

C. Out of nowhere, UNICRON!!

The answer, of course, is C.  Michael Bay must have some kind of mental disorder in which he must do everything bigger and louder than he did it before, and when he can no longer do bigger and louder, he must move on to something else.

Although I did enjoy Unicron, I’d still personally love to see those fabulously schizophrenic Quintessons get a piece of the action somewhere.  Why, I might even look forward to a Michael Bay movie if that were so!

transformersHey kids…can you spell disaster?

If you spelled it E-H-R-E-N-space-K-R-U-G-E-R, then I knew that you could.

Kruger’s Hollywood resume is almost as nighmarish as the serial slasher who shares his name.  He’s been responsible for such low-rent fare as The Skeleton Key and Scream 3.  Though he did have a little something to do with Blood and Chocolate, it’s not much reason to hold out hope.  Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

But now, Kruger’s going to be sole writer for the Transformers 3 script, as the other two writers of Transformers 2 have bugged out.  Considering his track record thus far, it’s not boding real what you’d call well for the third installment of the gigantic cash cow of a series.

Scuse me while I go looking for some comfort whiskey, while I count down the days until the release of this next grotesquerie on our childhoods when Transformers 3 comes out in 2011.

You might be surprised–oh, who am I kidding?  Chances are you’re going to be REALLY surprised–by who’s rumored to be slated to play Catwoman in the next installment of The Dark Knight series.

None other than Transformer vixen Megan Fox, that’s who.

Both the movie buff in me and the cynic in me say that this is a really, REALLY good idea that deserves a note of praise.  Taking advantage of Megan Fox’s steadily climbing career from both the Transformers series and other stuff like her upcoming Jennifer’s Body is just a really good move.  But it’s shaky at best–Fox all but laughed off the idea of playing Wonder Woman.  Why would she go for a different DC property?

But then, I end up wondering why.  Considering how well the other two installments of the Dark Knight series have done–for crying out loud, The Dark Knight managed to win a guy a posthumous Oscar, and that’s almost never done!–does it really matter who plays what at this point?  Isn’t it a foregone conclusion that it’ll do well as long as any competent actor takes the available parts?  Does the Batman series really NEED star power?

But this is all just sort of whistling in the dark anyway–star power never hurt anything–and it’s likely to GET star power whether it needs it or not.

Marilyn Wons (6), Suzanne Folwick (16) and Holly (79) are the winners of

the Transformers DVD — congratulations!!!

The numbers speak for themselves on Independence weekend with the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs racing neck-and-neck the whole weekend finishing at a tie.

I am looking forward to seeing how the weekend box office will unfold with American firecrackers and fireworksiceage4 popping off this Saturday night.  I have a feeling from the numbers on Wednesday’s opening of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs indicates the weekend will prove fruitful for the mighty moneymaker of Ice Age franchise.  The kids movie scored the best opening on a Wednesday for an animated feature with $13.8 million, beating the previous holder Shrek 2.

We mustn’t forget Michael Mann’s Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger, which got off to a promising start. The period gangster movie tallied an estimated $8.2 million as it opened Wednesday, placing third just under Michael Bay’s Transformers 2.

I am pretty sure that come Sunday Ice Age will still be on top while Transformers fights with the John Dillinger movie for second place.
