blake clark…Blake Clark.

I know, kind of disappointing, but one of the biggest questions surrounding Toy Story 3 was: “Who’s going to take over Slinky Dog since Jim Varney died?”  And that’s the answer–Clark is famous for showing up almost randomly in Adam Sandler movies, as well as for his own stand-up comedy career, so it’s not as though he’s a complete newcomer.

And in all honesty, Clark really does sound at least something like Jim Varney, so the massive shock will be reduced quite a bit.  In fact, it’ll almost sound like Varney himself is delivering all the lines, it’s just that the audio is a bit off.  These days, speakers in theaters are probably getting old and worn-out anyway with not a whole lot of profit left toward improving them, so you may be able to just chalk it up to lousy speakers and still be able to enjoy the movie.

But we’ll find out soon enough–Toy Story 3 will be front and center for summer movie season 2010.

02_lego_artWell, that’s it, folks…stick a fork in the entire concept of Hollywood because it is oh-ficially done like dinner.

Warner Brothers is now on record as planning to launch a movie about Legos.

Yeah, Legos.  You know, those little plastic blocks that pretty much everybody played with when they were kids?  And this isn’t about what people do with them or anything like that, either.  This is about something entirely different.  In fact, the studio is citing Toy Story as its model.

Okay, so maybe this isn’t as lunatic an idea as I first thought.  Let’s be honest here–in basements and bedrooms and playrooms all across the country, Lego has generated literally millions of stories.  I personally liked to arm my Legos and construct vast space fleets of mismatched vessels to go forth and destroy alien civilizations.  Fighter craft out of speedboats, bombers out of airliners, all that sort of thing.

And if I, a mere stripling, could come up with dozens of tales for my Legos to enact, imagine what actual writers could do.  Or failing that, imagine what Hollywood writers could do.

Pixar fans probably know that Disney is re-releasing both Toy Story and Toy Story 2 October 2009 in 3D. Each movie has been totally rendered again in 3D by taking all the original files. The plan is to show the movies back-to-back with an intermission for just a couple of weeks in movie theaters.  You’ll enjoy this trailer because it’s funny and neat to watch.  Have fun!

Disney Studio’s release schedule for 2009 and 2010 includes 10 films, which is more than any other studio, with Bolt barking up a storm this weekend. The two-digit number is caused by the unspooling of re-rendering Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in 3-D, respectively.

Obviously, the Beast is first. The process should take about 9 months but a release date hasn’t been set.

Producer Don Hahn stated in Variety, “By going back to the original animation files, which have been carefully archived for 17 years, and using the separate background, effects and character animation elements, we’re able to come up with a fun and unique 3-D experience for existing and new fans of the film.”

Next year’s lineup includes the Jonas Brothers 3-D Concert Movie, Pixar’s Up, Jerry Bruckheimer’s G-Force, and Robert Zemeckis’ Disney’s A Christmas Carol.

In 2010, the lineup includes Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Toy Story 3, Rapunzel, and Step Up 3.
