zach1Maybe Zach Galifianakis is the brains of Hollywood after all.  Guy’s actually pretty lucid when you get him in the interview track–check out what he had to say when IGN asked him about the very idea of another Hangover installation:

[Director Todd Phillips] is writing the script. But I haven’t seen the script. I’m not running to do The Hangover 2. I told Todd, the last thing I want is the Police Academy chain all of the sudden, where I’m only known from… You’ve got to be careful with something like that. The movie’s really good, why bother with a sequel? And I’m not saying that I’m not going to do it.

I’m just posing these questions. These are things I ask Todd. Obviously, the reason is executives have Bentleys to pay for. I would love, love, love to work with those guys again. The script has to be good! But I’m working with Todd on a movie we’ll be shooting in about six weeks. So I’ll do that first, and then we’ll see how it goes.

Got to hand it to the guy–a lot of people would just throw themselves at it for the quick cash. Not so with Galifianakis, who at least has to think it over before selling out.  I did, however, enjoy the first Hangover, so if you’re up for another go-round, Zach, I’ll buy the first round.

20090611-the-hangover This summer’s biggest comedy hit so far has been the awesome Hangover to which director Todd Phillips is now set to make a sequel. He will do so once he wraps up work on road trip comedy Due Date.

The Hangover sequel will begin production in October 2010 for release on Memorial Day 2011.

Phillips and Scott Armstrong have begun writing a script for the sequel, which is sure to continue the gang’s antics. The original has raked in $210 million domestic gross so far, becoming the second highest grossing R-rated comedy ever, beaten by Beverly Hills Cop.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 came in third Friday with The Hangover and UP remaining high, respectively, at the box office. I am interested in see what happens during the course of the weekend. Pelham could make it to second place because it’s not far from Up.

The Hangover kept the buzz going from last weekend’s race of the box office party against Up and pulling out as the winner until the last ticket sold on Sunday night.

What I find interesting about the box office score is that Star Trek (PG-13) is number one in the cumulative while placing in the number five spot for the week. Will The Hangover last in the box office race as a R-rated comedy or become sober this weekend by Tony Scott’s film The Take of Pelham 123?

The trades are telling me that it’s rare that the number one and number two movies switch positions once official weekend numbers are reported on Monday. But that is what happened this weekend with The Hangover and Up

The trades reported that Up soared over Hangover for the number one spot at the box office. I even posted the tally yesterday.  But Sunday proved to be a very busy day at the box office even with the NBA playoffs in the wings. Thus, the final numbers changed.

The final numbers for both films indicate Hangover grossed $45 million while Up grossed $44.3 million, meaning Hangover barely squeaked past Up, winning the weekend office score.

180full-todd-phillips Even before the first movie has been made, Road Trip and Old School director Todd Philips has been tapped write a sequel to his upcoming comedy The Hangover for Warner Bros.

The first film follows three groomsmen who wake up after an intense bachelor party in Las Vegas. They have lost the groom and forgotten everything that happened; they must now retrace their hazy steps in order to figure out where things went wrong and hopefully get the groom back in time to walk down the aisle.

Philips will be back to direct and produce the sequel. The studio is so confident in the film that it has already made deals with the film’s trio of stars – Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms.

Production begins later this year.

heather graham Heather Graham and Justin Bartha will be having a major hangover as they have joined the cast of The Hangover, an upcoming thriller from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.

The film will tell the story of three friends who lose their best friend at his bachelor party in Vegas just 40 hours before his wedding. They attempt to retrace their bad decisions from the night before and figure out where things went wrong.

Graham will play a Vegas local who crosses paths with the guys and might know more about the groom than she lets on.

The film is being directed by Todd Philips and will start production this week in sin city.
