quintin-jacksonI thought things were getting desperate when they started adapting every old TV show and children’s book into a movie, but frankly, when I heard that they were looking to modify The A-Team into a movie, I pretty much abandoned all hope.

And so it continues on with a new chunk of casting data–Quintin Jackson is now slated to play Mr. T’s old character, B.A. Baracus.

Considering that their other option was Tyrese Gibson, they might have gone with the lesser of two evils, but frankly, neither was a good call.  Where’s Michael Clarke Duncan?  Where’s Kevin Michael Richardson?  Where’s VING RHAMES??

Why is Mr. T’s old character being played by a MIXED MARTIAL ARTS FIGHTER??  And worse yet, this is his FIRST major movie role.  He’s completely inexperienced!

It’s enough to drive a fella to drinking, and I’m not talking milk, either.

Well, hopefully he won’t bungle the job too badly, anyway…not that I’m really holding out a lot of hope for this mess from the get-go.  But we’ll find out how well it comes off in 2010.

The Game to take on The T?

the-game2 No one can replace Mr. T’s immortal role as B.A. Baracus on The A-Team, but since he’s too old for the role now, Hollywood has had to look for other actors to step into the big shoes left by the T. Recent buzz indicated that rapper-turned-actor Common would be stepping into said shoes, but Blackfilm today reports that rapper The Game is now being considered for the role.

The site notes that Common may not be able to finish shooting Just Right by the time they get The A-Team started this August. Apparently, other possible candidates for the role so far have been Ice Cube and MMA fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

The Game, meanwhile, is said to be free. He made his film debut in Waist Deep and was last seen in Street Kings.

The A-Team is set to start shooting this August under the watchful eyes of Joe Carnahan. It is set for release next summer.

other_man_liam_neesonLiam Neeson is at the table talking with 20th Century Fox to star in the big screen version of  1980s TV series  –”The A-Team”–  as Col. John “Hannibal” Smith.  Bradley Cooper  at the table as well discussing the option of playing Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck.  Joe Carnahan, who is from my hometown, will direct the film.

Carnahan and Brian Bloom refined a script by Skip Woods (G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, Wolverine. )

Reported by Variety, Carnahan, Fox and Scott Free have kept the series premise — four war vets wrongly convicted of armed robbery escape from a military prison to become do-gooder mercenaries — but they’ve replaced the campy nature of the series with a tone closer to those of Mission: Impossible and Ocean’s Eleven.

Production is scheduled to start in late August for a June 11, 2010, release.

2007-5-31-party-for-new-blackberry-curve-at-beverly-wilshire-hotel-popsugar Even surprising the actor himself, IESB got Bradley Cooper to admit that he is in talks to play Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck in the coming film version of The A-Team.

This was done by the site’s reporter who asked the actor if he was excited about playing the role (was a rumor at the time). Cooper was surprised, saying: “That’s out already!? Wow. Yeah…its Joe Carnahan’s. It’s very interesting. It’ll be cool. It will be cool [to] see what…He’ll make a great movie out of it.”

The original Faceman was played by Dirk Benedict. Joe Carnahan is directing the new take on the classic ‘80s television series. It is slated to hit theaters next summer.

It looks like “The A-Team” has a sensible team of creative folks who will bring the 1980’s TV Series to the big screen. ateam1Twentieth Century Fox has joined Joe Carnahan to direct and Ridley Scott to produce with his brother Tony executive produce under their Scott Free banner with the movie opening summer 2010 film.

I’ve met Joe Carnahan; he’s from my neck of the woods, northern California.  The guy can articulate and knows direction. Carnahan is set to work with Brian Bloom to upgrade the script by Skip Woods (G.I. Joe).

Hopefully, production will start June 2009.

If you have been following the route of bringing “The A-Team” to the big screen, then you are familiar with the pot holes Fox has been trying to avoid the series’ original campy tone. Director John Singleton had most recently been attached to try such an attempt before dropping out. Woods came in and started over.

According to Variety, Carnahan and the Scott brothers will use the original premise of the series as the template for an action film. In the original, four Vietnam vets convicted of armed robbery escape from military prison and became do-gooder mercenaries. The Middle East will replace Vietnam as the place the four did their tour of duty, but Carnahan said the origin story is the jumping-off point.
