Starz Brings Back Crash

Crash

Crash, the first original drama series, co-produced with Lionsgate, will be returning for a second season scheduled to debut in the fall. The announcement was made today by Stephan Shelanski, executive vice president, programming of Starz Entertainment.

The series, from the producers of the Academy Award(R)-winning Best Motion Picture of the same title, is the provocative 13-episode drama that wrapped its inaugural season last month. Set in Los Angeles, “Crash” focuses on a multi-ethnic group of people from different socio-economic backgrounds and their lives as they intertwine and connect and their personal dramas unfold.

The program’s second season will feature 13 new episodes that will delve deeper into the many emotional and complex layers of life in Los Angeles.

Spartacus Aiming for Hard R

Taking full advantage of premium cable, Starzs new TV series version of Spartacus will be a “totally R-rated-hard-hard show”, according to producers Rob Tapert and Steven S. DeKnight.

The producers seek to show the series as intensely graphic as possible, with the first draft said to be essentially NC-17 in terms of sex and violence that had to be toned down just a bit.

“Much like 300, there will be a visual beauty to the way it is shot, said DeKnight. Theres an ode to violence … there are decapitations, people being split in half … we dont want to shy away form violence or sexuality. The beauty of being on premium cable is there is no story we cant tell.

The green-screen series will offer the same content as Stanley Kubricks 1960 film; it will also have additional characters and storylines.

Starz joins the Disney Channel in premiering the theatrical concert movie “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds” almost a month before it arrives on DVD in stores.

This is awesome to see Disney working with another network.  Kids of all ages can take a look at the film before they decide they want to add it to their personal library. My daughter already knows she wants the movie.
