Rachel McAdams is saying that she absolutely has NOT been cast in Spider Man 4 in the role of Black Cat.
This would be a pretty definitive response, all right…if it weren’t for one critical problem. The rumor is that she AUDITIONED. This is what she had to say:
“That’s a total rumor, I have to say,” going on to back up the story with a super-Canadian anecdote: “I was hanging out in Toronto the other day and someone came up to me and said, ‘I just heard you’re doing Spider-Man 4.‘ And I said, ‘Really? No one told me!’ It’s not true.”
There have been a lot of rumors swirling around the ether and the blogosphere alike about what’s going down with Spider Man 4. Everybody from Bruce Campbell to random toddlers has been mentioned. And now with Rachel McAdams possibly stepping in to play Black Cat (unless what she says is actually true), well, that’s just a little more fuel on the fire. You know we’ll be keeping an eye on this one!

So we’ve got a strange bit of news roaming around about the fourth installment of Spider Man, and it comes to us by way of a casting announcement that was made. Check THIS out:
[TODDLER BOY]
2 or 3 year old boy to play 2 year old, Caucasian with RED HAIR, an adorable toddler with an engaging personality, on set experience preferred. IDENTICAL TWINS ONLY
…yeah. Two year old Caucasian with red hair. We’re all pretty much aware that Mary Jane has red hair…so is it possible at this point that Spider Man might become Spider Dad? That’s entirely possible too, though it does kind of go against the established canon a bit.
Though let’s be honest…the established canon is in such tatters that there really isn’t a “going against it” at this point. For crying out loud, Spidey’s been retconned so many times it’s not even funny any more. He just sold his soul to Mephisto like ten, twelve issues ago.
So why not? Why not have Peter become a dad?

Yeah, I know…most of us Venom purists out there (of which I happily count myself among) were pretty convinced that casting Topher Grace as Eddie Brock was some kind of insult, either that or the result of the studio being utterly convinced we all had the mental candlepower of certain kinds of fish.
But I got one real good reason to cheer up and look forward to that Venom movie–two of the writers come from Zombieland.
Ohhhhh yeah. One of the freakiest looking action horror titles of the year and they’ll be writing the Venom movie. Apparently the script is already in Marvel’s hands, and from here it’s all a matter of getting it produced. The current suspicion is that Spider Man 4 will actually be used to set up the Venom movie, so it’ll be at least two years before Venom actually gets a watchable big screen experience. Ah well…we’ve waited longer for worse, and I’m definitely looking forward to this one.

No cameos for the B-movie horror industry’s leading chin, Bruce Campbell, in the future installments of the Spider Man series, no sir! In fact, by all reports, he’s looking to play a MAJOR role this time around.
The only problem is, Sam Raimi thus far has been very hush hush about it all–not even Campbell knows just what that “major” role is. Of course, there’s speculation. Maybe he’ll tackle Mysterio’s part. Maybe he’ll wind up being Spider-Man in some kind of future setting. I personally thought he’d make a great J. Jonah Jameson.
There are a whole lot of possibilities here, and with each being nearly as likely as the other to be the right possibility, all we can do is sit, wait, and hash it out endlessly over the sheer array of possibilities. However, we won’t have long to wait–filming on this one begins January of 2010, with an eye toward releasing it May of 2011.

The Walt Disney Company bought Marvel Entertainment in a stock and cash business deal worth $4 billion. What a change this will be for the Mouse House company and means Disney now owns more than 5,000 Marvel characters, including Thor, Fantastic-Four, Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men and Captain America.
The business transaction needs to be sanctioned by the antitrust review and approved by Marvel shareholders, but the deal is as good as gold.
Does that mean in the future we’ll be visiting Disneyland and riding on an Iron Man/Spider-Man cosmic amusement ride?

The Times reports that Tobey Maguire, known best for his on-screen personas Peter Parker and Spider-Man, has allegedly scored a $50 million salary, plus profit shares, for two Spider-Man films that will be shot back-to-back over six months next year.
While the salary is expected, what was surprising was a distinct stipulation in the contract that he be granted ‘family time’. Maguire is to be given early mornings and evenings off to spend time with his 22 month-old daughter Ruby Sweetheart.
Sony Pictures is yet to announce whether Kirsten Dunst will reprise her role as on-screen love interest Mary Jane Watson.

Sony decided to move forward with Venom, a likely Spider-man spinoff based on a horrific guy. The project stems from the gooey nemesis that appeared in Spider-man 3. The plan is to create a franchise like Wolverine grew from X-men.
As you will recall In Spider-Man 3, Venom is basically a parasite that attaches itself to a host via a sticky substance that then gives the host special powers.
Sony is creating a fourth Spider-Man movie for 2011.
