While the Spanish original was a classic, the Hollywood remake was a travesty to watch. Despite that, Sony’s Screen Gems has officially started work on a sequel to Quarantine, which was a box office success last October.
The Hollywood remake was a shot-for-shot remake of Spanish horror film [REC]. A sequel has already been shot in Europe for release later this year, but Screen Gems is looking for a totally original pitch for the Hollywood sequel.
Hopefully it will turn out to be better than the original remake. Now, that was severely disappointing.

From STYD comes word that Screen Gems has ditched plans for a remake of classic 80s vampire film Fright Night.
Apparently, the studio couldnt find a script they liked after fielding several pitches, so the update has been shelved for now. This move comes right after the remake of Near Dark a vampire western was also put on hold.
The original film followed a young man who was convinced that his new neighbor was a vampire and recruited the help of a classic horror actor turned rundown cable show host to help him prove it.

Making way for Saw 5 to rock the Halloween weekend, Screen Gems has moved Quarantine up a week from October 17 to the 10th to give it some ample room and hopefully not get butchered by the audience-drawing powers of the Saw franchise.
Quarantine is an American remake of the excellent Spanish thriller [Rec] which followed a TV crew battling infected tenants in a locked down apartment complex. The film stars Dexter’s Jennifer Carpenter and is directed by John Dowdle.
