nevecampbellOkay, on the off chance that you’re looking forward to the re-emergence of the Scream series in the form of Scream 4, then you’re not going to want to read what you’re about to read.

It’s a HUGE spoiler alert.  Huge.

Apparently, there’s at least some chance–and this comes from writer Kevin Williamson–that Sydney may not live past the end credits.  Quoth Williamson:

The thing about ‘Scream 4′ is that there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can’t promise anything,” he told PopWrap about Sidney’s role in the fourth film now that Neve will return. “There are a lot of moving pieces, so we’ll see — but if you’re a ‘Scream’ fan, I think you’re really going to like it.”

Now, the most disconcerting part about this is that it’s so very feasible.  See, Neve Campbell was essentially the weak link in this particular chain, and for a while it was unsure that she’d even come back at all.  It’s entirely possible that, at this point, Neve agreed to come back…one more time.

And that means they’d need to get rid of her.  What better way than to write her out?  It’ll be a good long while before we find out either way, but you know we’ll fill you in when we know!

scream-4Normally I malign Wes Craven work like no tomorrow as lacking subtlety or anything that might make a halfway-decent storyline.  But even I will always thank him for one movie:  Scream.

Scream pretty much single-handedly pulled the horror movie genre out of a morass that threatened to destroy it back in the late nineties.  I remember those days.  They were DARK.  There were times when I thought there might never again be a horror movie, and when you’re in high school, that’s just a horrible thing to think.

But Scream managed to reinvigorate the genre by taking all the best tropes and putting them over the top.  Thus, any iteration of Scream gets a free pass with me, for what it did all those years ago.  And Scream 4, which may or may not include Neve Campbell, has been officially confirmed by both Kevin Williamson and David Arquette.

The script is still being written so you know it’ll be a while before we get the chance to see it.   I’m prepared to believe this might be good, and even if it isn’t, I’m prepared to, once again, give it a pass.

david_arquette_jason Ready to Scream some more? Entertainment Weekly reports that Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette are in talks to star in a new Scream trilogy.

Released back in the ‘90s, the trilogy followed teenagers being killed in various brutal ways by a masked killer. It was heavily parodied by Scary Movie and other comedy films.

The original trilogy scribe Kevin Williamson has been working on a new set of three films. He hopes to bring back many of the old characters. However, there is still no word of Neve Campbell or any of the other actors returning.

Production on the first film of the new trilogy will begin this fall.
