Having committed atrocities such as Stealth and The Mummy 3, director Rob Cohen is now set to follow them up with Medieval for 20th Century Fox and New Regency.
Written by Alex Litvak and Michael Finch, Cohen describes the script as an event action feature that is more like “The Magnificent Seven” in the Middle ages.
Another infamous director, McG, will produce. They hope to get production started by October.
Slashfilm reports that Rob Cohen is attached to direct The Sea Artist, a film about modern day pirates.
No story details are known at the moment, but the film comes at a time when heightened awareness of modern day piracy has hit a peak. There are few films that deal with the subject matter, too.
The script has been penned by Tony Puryear, a comic book artist and music video director.
Following the “overwhelming audience response” to Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Film School Rejects are reporting that Rob Cohen is already planning to make a fourth film in the franchise. Where will the next movie be set? Where else can you get mummies? Peru, of course!
Both Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello suggested South America to be the next location for the fourth film. Cohen had more to add.
“What I’m really happy about is that, by taking ‘The Mummy’ out of Egypt and putting it in China, by exploring a different approach to the quest for immortality, we now have it clear that the ‘Mummy’ franchise can travel,” he said. “Now we know that if we want to go to Mexico or we want to go to Peru, we can because there’s a cultural truth there of the mummies and these beautiful cultures… So I think that somehow that might make the basis of a good story.”
As expected, no release date was given, though you can expect to see the film in another three years.
On Bloody Disgusting is word that Rob Cohen (Stealth) will produce a remake of the cult classic Monster Squad for Paramount Pictures.
The original, released back in 1987, followed a group of kids hunting down Dracula and his minions who are attempting to take over the world.
"I have been waiting to finish this (third Mummy) film, to really start the talks about remaking it," he said. "Maybe I would direct, maybe someone else with me producing. I really think highly of that that film…I mean, how great is it with The Mummy, the Wolfman, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula, Frankenstein they all were in it! It would be a prime remake!"
