Seems like their casting decision has paid off, as Daniel Craig seems to pull in audiences all over the world as the new James Bond. Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures today announced that Quantum of Solace, the twenty-second James Bond film, has taken in over $167.1 million to become the most successful film of the franchise in North America. It surpasses the $167 million record previously held by Casino Royale. The film is still playing in 891 theaters in the United States.
Additionally, Solace has raked in another $382.9 internationally, with the Japanese market yet to be tapped. The film, with a worldwide gross of $550 million, trails just behind Casino Royales $594.2 million.
Twilight bit the box office with over $70 million while Quantum of Solace barely held second place and Bolt came in third. Now this is an estimate, so Bolt could push up to second by the end of the day. He’s only trailing behind by $400,000.
With Twilight making $30 million today, it is likely that the teenage vampire movie will take the weekend box office. For this week, Quantum of Solace ruled the box office while the crazy jungle animals in Madagascar Escape 2 Africa stayed in second place.
The long holiday week should prove fruitful for the box office in general. I guess officially the holiday movie season has begun. Here are this week’s totals.
Weekend Box Office Estimate arrived early this morning. It looks like James Bond took the lead with Daniel Craig kicking, hitting and shooting his way through the bad guys in Quantum of Solace. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa held its own in second with Role Models in third.

There’s been a slight amount of backlash regarding the latest James Bond film, due out in November. Not only is its title, The Quantum of Solace, unappealing to the ear (and rather confusing), but the official Bond song has not lived up to expectations. Entitled Another Way to Die, it was written and performed by Jack White and Alicia Keys. Some fans aren’t quite happy with the results, and I can understand why. White and Keys don’t seem to mix well, and the duo seems like a deliberate marketing strategy to capitalise on both the rockers and the pop fans, but diluting the qualities of each, and pleasing few.
So, for your consdieration, here are two alternatives. Above is Adam Buxtun’s theme tune, concerning itself with Bond’s interest in just a quantum, and no more, of solace. Below is Joe Cornish’s response, which seems like an apt summary of the reinvented Bond. Adam and Joe used to present the amusing late night UK sketch show The Adam and Joe Show, and now host their own show for the UK’s BBC Radio 6, which is well worth checking out.
The complete theme song for Quantum of Solace. I can’t wait to see and hear “Another Way to Die” with the movie. Alica Keyes and Jack White are awesome!
“You don’t have to worry about me.” This is an actioned packed movie, which makes James Bond unbelievable — Awesome! Daniel Craig holds his own with action packed adventure.
