4th KindI have a confession to make:  Somehow, for a brief moment or two, I had Paranormal Activity and The Fourth Kind one of the same. I am sure it’s because both movies are about the unknown to a certain extent.  That said, here are a couple of production stills from The Fourth Kind. The movie has bigger stars (Milla Jovovich, Will Patton) than Paranormal Activity.

Another similarity is both films seem to have real footage. The Fourth Kind uses never-before-seen archival footage that is integrated into the film; The Fourth Kind exposes the terrified 378151_D019_00041Rrevelations of multiple witnesses.  Their accounts of being visited by alien figures all share disturbingly identical details, the validity of which is investigated throughout the film.

I didn’t know that vampires drank coffee drinks.  You really need to check out the bottom picture with Ethan Hawke standing among fellow vampires.  Some of them are holding coffee cups.

The top one to the left has Willem Defoe with Hawke in his sights. Is that blood on Defoe’s sleeve? Look closely it’s the arm with the hand holding the cross-bow steady.

The Daybreakers is creepy but with a clever twist that makes it more human.

Ethan Hawke plays Edward Dalton, a researcher in the year 2019, in which an unknoDB 876wn plague has transformed the world’s population into vampires. As the human population nears extinction, vampiresmust capture and farm every remaining human, or find a blood substitute before time runs out.  However, a covert group of vampires makes a remarkable discovery, one which has the power to save the human race.

james-macavoy-conspiratorI have been following James McAvoy’s career ever since I watched him in the original Narnia film.  His persona seems young and pure, which is worth a chuckle. That’s why he’s perfect for his next turn as a lawyer defending Mary Surrant who is accused of being an accomplice to the assassination of President Lincoln in Robert Redford’s The Conspirator.

Click on McAvoy’s water bottle and you can go to The Playlist that scooped the story this last week.  Also, Justin Long and Evan Rachael Wood have been added to the cast.

I am sure if Robert Redford takes this true life story for what it’s worth, he may be contending for some awards.

Park Chan-wook’s Thirst, starring Song Kang-ho, is officially in competition at the 2009 Cannes International Film Festival.

Looking at these production stills, gives me a chill. It will be interesting to see how the film does at Cannes.

The story is about Sang-hyun, a priest who believes that life is precious, volunteers for a secret vaccine development project to help save lives from a deadly virus. But during the experiment, he is infected by the virus and dies. When some unidentified blood is transfused into him, he miraculously comes back to life, but the blood has turned him into a vampire. Sang-hyun is now conflicted between the carnal desire for blood and his faith, which forbids him to kill. But if he cannot survive without feasting on human blood, how can he get it without resorting to murder?

Returning home alive, Sang-hyun meets a childhood friend, Kang-woo, and his wife, Tae-ju, among a crowd of people asking for his blessing. Tae-ju’s mysterious appeal arouses yearnings in Sang-hyun he has never felt before, and she in turn is drawn to Sang-hyun and the desires previously oppressed by her weakly husband and hysterical mother-in-law. Sang-hyun falls in love with Tae-ju, enough to give up everything he is. He eventually throws off his priest’s robes and steps into her world, thirsting for all the sensual pleasures it has to offer.

Sang-hyun and Tae-ju’s love becomes more and more brazen and fearless. When Tae-ju finds out that Sang-hyun is a vampire, she backs away-but not for long. Eventually, Tae-ju seduces Sang-hyun into using his power to kill her husband. Although Sang-hyun wants desperately to avoid committing the sin, he ends up compromising his own principles and accepts Tae-ju’s request to kill Kang-woo… d001-00006

The latest production still from J.J. Abrams Star Trek posted by Total Film.   It’s not much to look at but it’s new to the Internet.  Total Film’s article is pretty cool because there are quotes from the different actors about their characters, which I thought was interesting.

Okay, so you know I don’t like remakes, well…Director Tony Scott and screenwriter David Koepp have teamed up, as most movie enthusiasts know, to remake The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3.  Denzel Washington and John Travolta star. Washington is the good guy and Travolta is the bad guy. With this formula, I have to say there are exceptions to the rule — this is one exception.

I came across a couple of production stills of Washington wielding a gun. Take a look. I already like his character. What a wonderful actor.

I am a Harry Potter fan. I read all J.K. Rowling’s books to my daughter.  With November less than half a year away, Warner Bros. let some more production stills out for promotion. My first reaction was “how much those kids have grown.” Knowing the outcome of Half-Blood Prince and the overall plot, the pictures tug at me a little. I am interested. The one with Jim Broadbent as Horace Slughorn the new potions teacher is great.  The picture with Harry and Hermione is beautiful and refreshing. But where is Volt…?
