Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief Trailer #2 looks better than Trailer #1, but the film still seems dorky. The feedback that I am hearing is that the movie is not following the book, which is loved by so many kids. Christopher Columbus is an excellent director and I hope he can pull this one off. My fingers are crossed.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief teaser trailer debuted on AOL today. The movie is based on the book by Rick Riordan. The film is directed by Chris Columbus whose credit to fame includes Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets. I have to boost that I did work with Mr. Columbus on his not so famous movie 9 Months.
Logan Lerman stars as Percy Jackson, a boy who discovers that he’s the descendant of a Greek god and sets out on an adventure to settle an on-going battle between the gods. Like the books the movie should play to the younger crowd, yet it appears dark. But First Showing reports that the movie is actually a comedy with Sean Bean as Zeus and Steve Coogan as Hades.
If the trailer doesn’t make it clear, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief opens everywhere on February 12th, 2010.
The cast of Greek gods for the fantasy adventure Percy Jackson have come forth with Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan and Sean Bean to play Medusa, Chiron and Zeus, respectively. Kevin McKidd (Poseidon) and Melina Kanakerides (Athena) are also joining the celestial bunch in the film to be directed by Chris Columbus.
More roles need to be filled which are Aries, Hades and Persephone. Logan Lerman and Brandon Jackson have already signed on to be the stars.
The godly story focuses on Poseidon’s 12-year-old half-human son (Lerman), who embarks on a quest across modern-day America to save his mother, return Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt and prevent a deadly war between the gods.
Filming starts next month in Vancouver and a February 2010 release date.
Logan Lerman and Brandon T. Jackson are set to take the leading roles in Fox 2000’s Percy Jackson.
Chris Columbus is directing the adventure/fantasy movie about a schoolboy (Lerman) whose world is turned upside-down when he discovers that his father is actually the Greek god Poseidon. The story begins with Percy becoming the prime suspect when Zeus’ master lightning bolt is stolen. The boy has just 10 days to find and return the stolen property to bring peace to the warring gods.
Jackson is set to play Percy’s best friend Grover, a satyr. The overall casting plan is to place a number of big-name actors in the smaller roles of the gods. Shooting is schedule to begin in April in Europe.
Craig Titley and Columbus adapted the story from “The Lighting Thief,” the first of five novels in Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series.
Columbus directed the first two installments of the Harry Potter franchise.
