New Moon beat The Dark Knight as the film grossed the best opening day ever. The Batman movie held the record of $67.2 for opening day, but now the Twilight sequel has the glory. I don’t think the crowds are going to let up either. Come Sunday we will see some very high numbers and record breaking numbers.

District 9 beat 2007’s Superbad and last year’s Pineapple Express for best opening day for an R-rated Sony movie and the second highest opening day for an R-rated movie in August. Pretty much young males are reaching into their pockets to buy their tickets for District 9, which brought in a whopping $14.2 million.

The Friday box office said “yes” to Disney’s The Proposal marking the best ever Sandra Bullock film opening day and the best ever romantic comedy opening during June-August since 1999 with Runaway Bride starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.
