Nicolas Sparks is one lucky author. He just cut a seven-figure deal with Warner Bros. for the movie rights to “The Lucky One” his latest bestseller.
As most movie goers may recall, Sparks’ The Notebook was a sleeper hit in 2004 for New Line.
“The Lucky One” narrates the story of Logan Thibault, a Marine who survives three tours in Iraq. He assigns his good fortune to a photograph he carried of a woman he never met, and he sets out to meet his lucky charm.
Sparks is one of the few authors to strike such a deal these days. Otherwise, most authors are still waiting for their big-bucks deals when in the past such deals were quickly made and common among bestsellers.
Just as a side note, several other books of Sparks are set for film, including the Lasse Hallstrom-directed Dear John, in production. Sparks is writing a new novel and an accompanying screenplay that is being custom-fit as a star vehicle for Miley Cyrus at Disney.
