More previous work of the late Heath Ledger is surfacing once again. Screenhead introduced Ledger’s King Rat, an animated short, some time ago.

Now, Cause and Effect has surfaced in the news today.

Ledger was known for saying “Talent begets Talent.” The Godfather of Australasian Hip Hop – Nfamas of 1200 Techniques – made a decision to go out on his own as No Fixed Abode. He approached his childhood friend, the late Heath Ledger, to direct his first music video.

Ledger loved to immense himself in music, and reportedly he believed in Nfa’s talent and ability to become a Hip Hop star on his own. Together, with Ledger as director, they created Nfa’s first music video Cause and Effect.  Clearly we can see Ledger’s talent as an artistic director and the potential future he had as a director. The ability Ledger had to boldly embody the No Fixed Abode fundamental spirit, is very clear in this extraordinary music video.

It’s sad to lose such talent as Ledger, but at least we have the spirit of his work today that will live forever.

I have been writing articles about travelling in Asia, so I find it interesting that Dunst was walking through Akihabara Electric Town district of Tokyo merrily enjoying the wackiness of her thigh-highs.

Director McG is working on a music video with Kirsten Dunst. I guess he’s going back to his roots of making music videos. Dunst is the star.  I love this picture of her walking down the street. Definitely turns some heads. What would happen if you saw someone walking down the street looking like Dunst with blue hair carrying a parasol?

This new video is directed by Marc Webb and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel – and was made independently from 500 Days of Summer (so is NOT a scene from, nor is it connected to, the film) – it’s a fun piece and the chemistry between the two shines through. The music video just came out online via USA Today!

bon-voyageI have to admit, it takes a serious set of stones for a video’s creators to give its audience advance warning, especially on Newgrounds, where most warning comes in the form of “there are boobies in this”.  And the creators of Voyage Episode One: Departure gave us a doozy of a warning–this is the content of said warning: What you’re about to watch is not a comedy,  so don’t attack it in voting because it’s not funny.   This is experimental in nature, so expect strange things.  Download the free music because it’s awesome.

So assuming you’re still interested in seeing this, you’ve already had two major hopes dashed.  It will not be funny, nor will it make sense.  It’s experimental in nature.  It’s organized around a song called “Unconsciousness”.  What’s next, someone’s going to cover an entire McDonald’s in cooking lard and declare it the enemy of the state’s arteries?  Seriously, folks, my Pomposity Meter is just PEGGING right now and I haven’t even started the video.

But starting the video revealed something interesting–the warnings largely were unnecessary.  Yes, it wasn’t funny, but what it was instead was an intriguing and poignant vision of an abused boy who’s given a rare and unusual offer–leave the oppressive “care” of the horrible old man watching him for something else.  Just what, we don’t know.  And hopefully by the end, we WILL know.  But for right now, I find myself ready for more.  Unconsciousness made a surprisingly good background track for this, and the story is surprisingly engrossing.

Looking very much forward to episode two.
