ba oldba new

Remember when I said it was the dumbest idea ever to put some UFC fighter in charge of the role of B.A. Baracus in the upcoming remake of The A-Team?

Well, as it turns out, it may not be that bad an idea after all.  Check it out above–the pic with the text is old B.A., otherwise known as Mr. T.  The other pic is NEW B.A., Quintin “Rampage” Jackson.  You may well notice that, well, they look pretty darn similar.

Sure, it’s not an EXACT translation.  That’s never going to happen.  But there’s something to be said for “close enough”, and this just might qualify, or at least it does from where I’m sitting.

Take a look at the two pics then hit the comments section.  Do you think this new B.A. is going to work out all right?  Or is his lack of acting experience going to be too noticeable?

quintin-jacksonI thought things were getting desperate when they started adapting every old TV show and children’s book into a movie, but frankly, when I heard that they were looking to modify The A-Team into a movie, I pretty much abandoned all hope.

And so it continues on with a new chunk of casting data–Quintin Jackson is now slated to play Mr. T’s old character, B.A. Baracus.

Considering that their other option was Tyrese Gibson, they might have gone with the lesser of two evils, but frankly, neither was a good call.  Where’s Michael Clarke Duncan?  Where’s Kevin Michael Richardson?  Where’s VING RHAMES??

Why is Mr. T’s old character being played by a MIXED MARTIAL ARTS FIGHTER??  And worse yet, this is his FIRST major movie role.  He’s completely inexperienced!

It’s enough to drive a fella to drinking, and I’m not talking milk, either.

Well, hopefully he won’t bungle the job too badly, anyway…not that I’m really holding out a lot of hope for this mess from the get-go.  But we’ll find out how well it comes off in 2010.

The Game to take on The T?

the-game2 No one can replace Mr. T’s immortal role as B.A. Baracus on The A-Team, but since he’s too old for the role now, Hollywood has had to look for other actors to step into the big shoes left by the T. Recent buzz indicated that rapper-turned-actor Common would be stepping into said shoes, but Blackfilm today reports that rapper The Game is now being considered for the role.

The site notes that Common may not be able to finish shooting Just Right by the time they get The A-Team started this August. Apparently, other possible candidates for the role so far have been Ice Cube and MMA fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

The Game, meanwhile, is said to be free. He made his film debut in Waist Deep and was last seen in Street Kings.

The A-Team is set to start shooting this August under the watchful eyes of Joe Carnahan. It is set for release next summer.

Not getting enough press, Sly Stallone’s next film, The Expendables, looks like it may be the biggest action revival ever. Fans of the hyper-masculine fights, gun battles, and homo-erotic subtext of the 80’s and 90’s will all flock to see this flick. Why? Not only is Sly writing and directing, but he’s enlisting the biggest names in action films to join forces. Already the film stars Sly himself, Jason Statham, and Jet Li. And now it seems that Dolph Lundgren, meathead in films like Universal Soldier, Rocky IV, and Masters of the Universe, may be joining. According to Dark Horizons, Stallone himself revealed that he’s on the verge of signing the aged action-man to the flick.

Now, all Sly needs is Mr T, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Segal, with a cameo from Arnie, and every man who grew up in the 80’s will storm the box office to check out this film, with its hilarious premise involving a group of merceneries who load up and attempt to take down a “South American dictator”. Presumably, it’s not by silent protest.
