Michael Moore sent out a press release today saying “We’re just one day away from the widest opening I’ve ever had for any of my movies. Tomorrow, Friday, October 2nd, Capitalism: A Love Story opens on over a thousand screens across the United States, a record for an independent documentary.

This follows last weekend’s limited opening in New York and L.A. where Capitalism  set the box office record for the highest per screen average of ANY movie released so far this year. Not just any documentary — any MOVIE! It was, as the studio said, a good indicator of just how well the movie may do when it goes wide this weekend. I sincerely hope they’re right because I believe deeply in this film.”

To kick off the national release of Capitalism: A Love Story, Moore has asked the studio to offer a number of screenings in the nation’s hardest hit cities — the ones with the highest unemployment rates and highest foreclosure rates — where those who’ve lost their jobs or who are in foreclosure (or have already been evicted) may attend his film free of charge. The studio has agreed, and so tonight (Thursday), the night before the movie’s opening day, ten cities will grant the public free admission for those who have fallen on hard times. The list of theaters and cities are here at Michael Moore’s website. You don’t need to bring any “proof” of your situation — just show up — it’s the honor system, no questions asked.

So, if you’re going through tough times and you live in one of the areas,  ”Please be my guest tonight, on the eve of my new film’s opening. Seating will be on a first come, first served basis,” says Moore.

michaelmooreSo Michael Moore’s looking to drum up a little advance attention ahead of his upcoming “documentary”, Capitalism: A Love Story by announcing that it just might be his last.

Quoth Moore: “I have been working on two screenplays over the last couple of years.  One’s a comedy, one’s a mystery, and I really want to do this.”

It’s not such a stretch to believe that Moore wants to become a filmmaker; his “documentaries”, meanwhile, have been at least partially fiction for years, so why not lose that “true-story” veneer completely?  Even better, a movie merely written by Moore would mean that he’d be out of the shot, and we could actually see background for once.

Would the audience follow?  Possibly but not necessarily–Moore could probably do a very interesting political satire, assuming he actually took a run at it.  There’s no word as to what the content of his comedy or his mystery entails, so we’ll have a good long while to wait before we get to see just how Moore’s filmography turns out.

Capitalism: A Love Story is the newly unveiled title of Oscar-winner Michael Moore’s latest documentary feature.  Overture Films will release the film domestically on October 2, 2009, and Paramount Vantage will handle international distribution.  As previously announced, Moore will return to the issue that began his career: the disastrous impact that corporate dominance and out-of-control profit motives have on the lives of Americans and citizens of the world.

On why he chose to make a ‘love story,’ Moore stated that it was time for him to make a ‘relationship movie.’  “It will be the perfect date movie,” said Moore. “It’s got it all — lust, passion, romance, and 14,000 jobs being eliminated every day.  It’s a forbidden love, one that dare not speak its name.  Heck, let’s just say it: It’s Capitalism.”

moore Michael Moore is back at it again, having announced a new documentary that will tackle the global financial crisis. Dubbed Capitalism: A Love Story, the film will address the cause of the global economic meltdown and the impact that corporate dominance has on the lives of Americans all over the world.

Quite humorously, Moore noted that it will be a “perfect date movie,” as it has “got it all – lust, passion, romance and 14,000 jobs being eliminated every day.” The film is due out on October 2.

This is the first film since Moore’s Sicko which was released back in 2007. Moore is responsible for three of the top six highest-grossing documentaries: Fahrenheit 9/11, Sicko and Bowling for Columbine.

The film is being distributed by Overture and Paramount Pictures.

Michael Moore is a bold producer and director. He brings to the table issues that oppress society. Issues that need to be faced, which doesn’t make some folks very happy. But I like the way he cuts through our social veneer.  Other directors have been bold enough before, but as pop corn entertainment like Frank Capra, Billy Wilder, George Stevens and William Wyler to name a few.   These directors made some outstanding films the depicted core issues like war, poor, truth, corruption and unsuspecting.

Moore doesn’t use pop corn entertainment — he is very straightforward — he uses the documentary format in a very superb way.

It’s amazing how much Kevin Farley looks like Michael Moore at times, but not completely.

This looks like another outrageous and totally irreverent comedy An American Carol from David Zucker, the director of movie satire — Airplane!, The Naked Gun, Scary Movie 3 and 4.
