michael-jackson-this-is-it-rehearsalThere’s absolutely no chance that Michael Jackson’s final movie This Is It will win an Oscar for Best Documentary.

I’m sorry, but that’s just the case.  It was released too late in the year to be considered–at least this year.  But it’s not too late, however, for it to take other honors.  It could easily take the Academy Award for Best Picture, even if it has some pretty stiff competition in that department.

Most years, Academy Award for Best Picture is seldom a foregone conclusion even at the best of times.  But let’s face it…this is a wholly different animal.  This is a movie about the last concert ever that never actually happened but was in the process of doing so of one of the biggest entertainers of the twentieth century.

That and the Best Picture slate has been recently expanded to TEN competitors rather than five, so there’s some extra room on the field, a slot that This Is It could easily find itself in.

Can This Is It win?  Well, that’s not clear.  Especially since NONE of the slots have been filled yet.  But is there every possibility?  I’d say yes.

michael-jackson-mii-5Before we begin today’s proceedings, let me preface my remarks by saying that Michael Moore better go get a cheesecake and a bottle of scotch RIGHT NOW because he’s probably about to lose a world record.

The best sales record for a theatrically released documentary ever was Fahrenheit 9/11 by Moore, and it brought in a whomping one hundred and nineteen million dollars.

The final biography about Michael Jackson, This Is It, has already sold out a hundred and sixty showings at the official site.  Online ticket vendor Fandango reports that its available ticket stock of a hundred and ten showings have sold likewise out.

This one releases October 28th, and with all those showtimes sold out, sounds like businesses all around the country better prepare for a massive outbreak of flu, colds, and bad backs, because no one’s gonna show up with that huge wad of tickets outstanding.  In fact, from the look of things, even Saw VI might get a run for its money.  Man, how creepy is that?  The biggest seller of Halloween weekend might be a documentary….

This is it opens October 28, 2009 and runs for two weeks.  We just might see a Michael Jackson we’ve never known. The documentary contains behind-the-scenes footage of his comeback concert tour that never happened due to his ill-fated death.

This is it

Yahoo just posted the movie poster for This is It, which says it all. Soon after Michael’s passing we were told that an enormous amount of footage had been filmed of Michael Jackson rehearsing for his comeback tour.

Sadly those concerts cannot happen now, but director Kenny Ortega (High School Musical, II and III) has taken the rehearsal material and edited the work into a theatrical presentation that’ll hit screens near the end of October.

michaeljacksonArguably one of the world’s most famous  music performers in history, the late Michael Jackson’s story lives on in Devotion: An Unauthorized Tribute to Michael Jackson, coming to DVD Sept. 1, 2009.

On June 25, 2009, the world seemingly stood still as news spread that Michael Jackson – “The King of Pop” and one of the most beloved, successful and iconic performers in history – was dead.

Devotion is a multi-faceted and personal look at Michael’s rise to the top and how he conquered the world, changed music forever, fell from grace and shocked us all with his departure on the eve of history’s biggest come-back tour. Includes interviews with family, friends, fellow celebrities and music industry insiders.  Yet, we mustn’t forget the prescription drugs he took to further his downward spiral.  He leaves a legacy but also a lesson to learn. Stay away from harmful prescription drugs!

Featurettes: “The Memorial”; “Media” – a look at a life-long bombardment of press coverage; “Global Phenomenon” – examining the world-wide sensation; “Charity Work” – explores the star’s philanthropic dedication, supporting 39 charities

THR just sent me this clip of Michael Jackson rehearsing two days before his untimely death.  The quality is not great, but I can clearly see a fit man dancing extremely well with confidence. Which brings to the table the possibility of an accidental drug overdose.  Yikes!

Yesterday we lost a very talented and human artist because of prescription drugs. Michael Jackson was taking amjackson cocktail of up to SEVEN prescription drugs in the months before his death, Life & Style has confirmed.

The star had been taking prescription painkillers including anti-anxiety drugs Xanax, Zoloft and painkiller Demerol in recent months, sources close to Jackson say. The insider close to the star said he took a suspected overdose of drugs on Thursday morning, which caused respiratory and cardiac arrest.

Jackson family lawyer Brian Oxman confirmed Jackson may have had trouble with prescription drugs as he prepared for his London show. “This was something which I feared and something which I warned about,” Oxman said on CNN. “I can tell you for sure that this is something I warned about. Where there is smoke there is fire.”

Mr Oxman compared Michael to Anna Nicole Smith, alleging that Michael had ‘enablers’ just like her.

I also recommend you visit a very truthful explanation from Lisa Marie Presley’s MySpace post on Michael.
