Charlize-Theron_NYtimesWell now, here’s something interesting for you lovers of dystopian fare, like myself.  Seems that they’re working out some of the kinks involved in a remake of Mad Max, and they’ve come to two very interesting conclusions:

1. Charlize Theron should be in it.

2. Mel Gibson should NOT be in it.

You may be wondering how the elderly raving lunatic that started the whole thing, pretty much, is managing to be thrown over for a much younger man in the form of Tom Hardy.  In case you’re wondering who Tom Hardy is, he’s the guy who played Captain Picard’s clone in the poorly-realized cash grab Star Trek: Nemesis.

And I basically just answered the question right there.  Studio heads claim Mel’s just too old to handle the part any more.  So they’re handing it over to…the guy who made a bad movie even worse?  I guess this is why I don’t make the big bucks, because that just sounds IDIOTIC.

I like this movie trailer because it tells you what Edge of Darkness is all about with even a tiny, little spoiler.  The acting is intense and Mel Gibson does a great job.  It’s a typical cop story but it resonates a better quality than most.  Martin Campbell directed the movie.  Casino Royale is on his resume as well as Mark of Zorro, the guy knows action. The movie opens next year, January 29, 2010.

melgibbevIf this production photo with Mel Gibson talking to a beaver puppet seems out of place and rather silly, then you are in agreement with the bulk of the Internet posts.  However, I read the script review  on The Beaver. The story sounds bizarrely inventive and funny.   The movie has two very strong acts and a third that appears to fly by the seat of its pants but lands sanely to the ground.

The script will be directed by Jodie Foster who also stars in the movie as Gibson’s wife.

Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster were great together in 1994’s Maverick and now they will be together, once more, in The Beaver.  Jodie Foster is also directing.

Gibson will play a disheartened man who finds solace in wearing a beaver hand-puppet. Foster will play the role of the man’s wife while she also directs.

Production should start around September of this year.

No Lethal Weapon 5

mel_gibson_lethal_weapon Lethal Weapon scribe Shane Black has indicated that despite his work on a script for the fifth film, it’s most likely that another Lethal Weapon film won’t happen.

This is supported by Moviehole who talked with a source who agreed, saying “that one is as good as dead… it’s won’t happen.” He added that Black’s script was “fabulous” and a “much better second off” than the fourth film.

It is being speculated that the killing blow was served by none other than Mel Gibson who turned down the chance to be in a fifth film.

We’ve seen oldies doing sequels to their old-fashioned action films. Well, okay, that was Bruce Willis (Die Hard 4.0) and Sylvester Stallone (Rambo). Rumors have been circulating that Mel Gibson could also join the bandwagon when last week, Joel Silver mentioned that a fifth installment is on the works. But apparently, those are just rumors. Richard Donner, the director of the first two adventures denied these claims.

It seems like Mel, turned the offer down. Sequels usually generate groans from moviegoers, however, a Lethal Weapon 5 installment has been pretty positive. It’s just too bad its main actor isn’t that interested in it. I’m also pretty sure getting another actor would totally kill the film since Gibson has been the face and selling point of the whole Lethal franchise.

Edge of Darknessadds Ray Winstone to the cast as the replacement for Robert De Niro. Mel Gibson stars in the drama directed by Martin Campbell.

Filming begin August 18th.

Winstone is looking at playing an agent who cleans up evidence in a murder of a detective’s (Gibson) daughter.  The detective wants answers as to why his daughter was killed.

Robert De Niro just arrived on the set of Edge of Darkness this week. Then, he bowed out and left the production.

De Niro planned on playing an operative sent to clean up the evidence in the murder of a young woman. Mel Gibson stars as the victim’s father, a homicide detective for the Boston Police Dept. who find outs about her secret life, a corporate cover-up and government secret plot.

Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts and Bojana Novakovic also star.

The filmmakers plan to shoot around De Niro’s character’s scenes pending a replacement.

Mel Gibson has some company in his thriller Edge of Darkness. Danny Huston, Shawn Roberts and Bojana Novakovic have joined him and Martin Campbell is directing the movie.
GK Films is financing.

Darkness focuses on a veteran cop (Gibson) whose only grown-up child (Novakovic) is murdered on the steps of his home. The cop discovers his daughter’s secret life and uncovers a world of corporate cover-ups and government collusion. Huston takes on the role of a shady businessman while Roberts will play the role of the daughter’s distraught boyfriend.

Robert De Niro is also in the film, cast as a CIA cleaner.

Filming starts later this month on location in Massachusetts.

I am happy to hear that Robert De Niro is closing in on a deal to work with Mel Gibson in Edge of Darkness the Martin Campbell-directed feature that is based on Campbell’s 1985 BAFT-winning six-hour BBC miniseries. Filming begins this month in Massachusetts.

Gibson stars as Thomas Craven, a straitlaced homicide detective for the Boston Police Dept. and single father, whose 24-year old daughter is murdered on the steps of his home. The cop supposes he was the target, but his investigation leads in another direction and uncovers his daughter’s secret life, a corporate cover-up and government collusion.

De Niro plays the operative sent to clean up the evidence.

I can’t wait to see these two actors star in the same film – such talent.
