BET Networks and Marvel Animation have tapped big-screen, Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou to give his voice to the title character in the cable network’s upcoming animated show, The Black Panther.  

The series is adapted from Marvel comic books of the same name, which were penned in 2005 by director, producer and former BET president Reginald Hudlin.  

According to Variety, The Black Panther is Marvel’s entrée into prime-time animation. With Hounsou attached to do the main character’s voice, sets a whole new level in bringing the best of animation to television.

The Avengers Goes Animated

Bringing even more cartoons to the small screen, Marvel Animation is beginning production on The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the company’s latest animated series.

Film Roman (The Simpsons) has been hired to produce the 26-episode series which will be available for broadcast sometime in 2011 just in time for the Captain America and The Avengers live-action films.

Ciro Nieli (Teen Titans) will produce the series. The story is being worked on by Christopher Yost, who has worked on previous animation endeavors including Fantastic Four and Iron Man.
